My system specs:Intel Pentium 4 2.8gigAsus P4T533 motherboard fsb=5331GIG of RDRAM 4200 232 pinRadeon 9700 Pro with Catylyst 3.1 drivers previously had 2.5Soundblaster AudigyMaxtor 80 gig hard driveAntec 400W Power Supply, Case=Open for coolingSoftware:Windows XP ProfessionalFlight Simulator "is killing me"Here is my situation:I can start a flight from say for example Asheville to Charlotte, does not matter either night or day it happens and no given time either. But Flight Simulator just crashes. It runs as pretty as you please and looks sweet and then all of a sudden again no time frame it crashes. Evertime it has referred to one of the "Modules" dll file such as terrain.dll, simutil.dll, g2d.dll.....etc. This is puzzling the heck out of me and i cant quite figure it out. Ive rules out a heating issue because the processor does not get that hot. Ive swapped rdram slots, i would like to take one out and try it but the problem is you have to have two for it to even boot. Can I use a terminator instead? Please any help would greatly be appreciated. Im almost tempted to do a complete reinstall od FS.Thanks.JP

Hi JP,try just reinstalling the offending modules, they sometimes get corrupted. I think they're on the first FS CD - cancel the autorun, and use the Windows search function to search for them by name. Remember to delete the original ones first before installing the fresh ones (for some reason it's not a good idea to overwrite .dll files, but I can't remember why).Good luck!Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Hey Gosta,Hey Gosta thanks for your help in this matter, what i have done is deleted all the dll files in the "Modules" directory and just extracted the new ones from the first cd-rom. Before I left for work I started a log flight and left it on autopilot, so we'll see when I get home. Thanks for your response.JP

Well its official it happened again, this time it referred to the g2d.dll file, any ideas? Im going to reinstall in the meantime.JP

So the easy way out didn't work...There were reports some time ago about FS crashing after a while with the 9700, but I never had that problem (using two different motherboards), and the reports seem to have gone away. Did this also happen with the old 2.5 drivers you were using? You could check out the forums at www.rage3d.com - maybe there's some help. It definitely looks like something went awry when you installed your hardware.Good luck and keep us posted,Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Yep same thing happened when I used the 2.5's, I just finished the reinstall by deleting fs2002.exe and starting again, took off in the Capt. Sim 727 from Boston heading south. It ran fine for an hour or so and then crashed with a atc.dll file name. Im about to call ati and see if there could be a problem with my card. Thanks,JP

Well i have done a reinstall by deleting the fs2002.exe file and reinstalling but now thinking about it I probably should have done a complete uninstall and deleted the folders because the terrain.dll crash is happening again. In the meantime I yanked the Radeon card out and plopped in a GForce 4 4600. Ran FS and same thing happened about 30-45 minutes into a flight. So to do this properly I am going to uninstall FS off of the hard drive do a registry clean, uninstall the nvidia drivers and reinstall the Radeon, as I see no reason to expect a video card failure. I am going to try the Catylyst 2.5's as I have heard that these drivers are more stable than the newer ones. Will report back on my findings after this is done later when I get home. I have a bad habit called "persistence" and Im bound to get to the bottom of this.JP
