ASUS P3B-F Intel 440BX AGP

Featured Replies

Anyone with experience with this mobo that could possibly direct me to correct drivers. ASUS site does not show "any" drivers for any OS.Originally had a P3V4X which failed - under warranty. THought computer shop had replaced with same. Come to learn, that I have a P3B-F instead. And, per ASUS readme, this board was only good for up to PIII600 - and I have a PIII800 on board.Time to replace. Just curious as to any knowledge or experience with the P3B-F board. Thanks,Ron

If you are using Win98, then the correct drivers for your controller chips 440BX are provided with Win98. Do not use the Intel drivers, except to remove the Intel drivers, if they are installed - http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/bm/bus_win.htm . They would only be installed if you or the shop installed them.

Ron, on boot up is it saying 600mhz???? This board, which I had awhile ago, will support up to 800mhz, if the right bios is installed. It will be noted in the lower left on boot up. It has to be 1006. Here is a link for the bios and updated manual. You should be able to do it by the jumperless mode, or through setting the dip swithches as shown in the manual.pdf. It is the updated one, which shows the 8x's settings for 100 mhz bus speed. I'd make the computer shop udate the bios if needed. I've held my breath each time I've done it to my boards...you could lose the whole thing...but I never did. Asus does give step by step instructions to do this. Good luck....http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/it...ModelName=P3B-F

Hi Gregg,My story gets worse..... Short version:I had a mobo replaced last May - when my original, 1-year old ASUS P3V4X/533 went bad. I was billed (just out of warranty), and given manuals for the replacement - showing a P3B-F 440BX AGP was installed.Well, upon opening my case yesterday, I find I actually received a P3V133 - Rev.1.13 !! According to the ASUS site, that board handles only up to a 733mghz. CPU - and I have a PIII800.Using diagnostics, I'm showing my system running at 798 mghz., so the mobo must be handling the 800.I flashed the BIOS yesterday, successfully - but no improvement to my sound problem, or the auto shutdown failure I've experienced. I was just "hoping"..... the updated BIOS shows fine, no problems, however the BIOS version shows "BETA" now on boot-up, after the version #1003 ?Ahhh, puters....... !Very strange that only the ATC comunication .wavs get distorted - they stutter at the end of a word - very sporadically. And gauges also stop / FS seems to stutter too..... so maybe it's not just the sound that is the problem. May be more involved... ??Ron

Ron, I've home grown my last 3 towers.....Good to know exactly what is going into em. Looks like they(computer shop) use boards and push them beyond spects, or don't know what they are doing. I know my old p3b-f worked just fine and showed the 800mhz. Good Luck sir.....
