February 27, 200323 yr I have just bought the following to upgrade my system Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboardAMD XP 2400 CPU1 GB Samsung PC2700 memory. However when I put in my Leadtek Ti4200 graphics card and install Win ME it recognises the graphics cared as a standard VGA card. Then I install the nVidia drivers (various versions - all have the same result) the system hangs with various messages like Cannot find Kernel386 invalid path. If I reboot into safe mode and delete the nVidia drivers and revert to a standard VGA card the system will boot but only to 640x480 16 colours. I tried my older GTS card with the same result. It seems that when I try to access anything in the AGP slot other than standard VGA the system hangs. Tried all sorts of settings in the BIOS without success. Both graphic cards work fine in my other machine. Does anyone thing this could be a faulty motherboard?Any suggestions/solutions to try will be greatly appreciated before I refer back to the supplier.Cheers
February 28, 200323 yr You need to install the NForce driver for WinME before you can use the AGP functions - http://www.asus.com/support/download/item....=A7N8X%20Deluxe - nf2v116_wme.zip.Did you get a CD that has drivers on it when you received your MOBO? Bill Sieffert
February 28, 200323 yr Yes I got the driver CD and loaded all the nVidia drivers first which I assume included the AGP drivers. I'll try the download just in case it's a later version. Thanks
February 28, 200323 yr Solved it. I know ME can only handle 512MB RAM but I didn't think any more would crash the system. Took out 512MB and it works OK. I used to dual boot ME/XP as I wasn't totally happy with FS2002 in XP and I have an infrared device which doesn't seem to like XP, seems like I'll have to get used to it now if I want to use all the memory I've just purchased.
February 28, 200323 yr Boy, I overlooked that piece of information you provided. Yes, 1GB could cause those problems. If you are still dual booting, you can probably leave the memory installed if you follow these directions:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q108079 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;en-us;q253912 Bill Sieffert
March 2, 200323 yr Thanks for the info, without your earlier comments I would not have thought about reducing the memory even though I knew ME had problems with more than 512MB. I've checked the MS documents and it may give me a work around but the more I use XP the more I like it so I really must get my infrared devise to work in XP then I have no need to dual boot. Thanks again
