Monitor Choice

Featured Replies

Hi,I am thinking of upgrading from a 17" monitor to a 19", and have beenlooking at the NEC FE991SB Superbright 19" model. Is anybody usingthis model and how satiesfied are you?Perhaps someone could recommend a different one which gives betterperformance. I am not looking into any LCD's (too expensive).Any ideas or recommentations are appreciated.ThanksHelmut Berger

Hi Helmut,I'm not familiar with the NEC monitor but I do have the Iiyama 19" Pro454 and can testify to its excellence. It is adjudged the best 19" CRT monitor by PC Pro here in the UK.It has a superbright mode for viewing DVDs and photos but I use it in its conventional mode for FS2002. With a feed from a Ti4600 I am running FS2002 at 1280*960*32-bit colour at 85Hz with spectacular results.Hope that helps.

Hi Ray,Thanks for your reply, never heard of the Iiyama brand name, most likely not avail. in Canada. Anyway I picked up the Nec and it's a big improvement from the old 17". This one also features SuperBright. My scenery and everything else looks considerable better now.I guess a good quality monitor can also make a difference and not just Video cards alone.ByeHelmut

Hi Helmut,I'm glad you like your new monitor. I'm always amazed that people talk about processors, graphics cards and just about every other component except one of the most important - the thing you stare at for hours! A good quality monitor makes a huge difference to your enjoyment of FS and everything else. And yes, it's as important as the graphics card. No point having a Ti4600 with a poor 15" or 17" monitor unable to run at the high resolutions the card can provide.Cheers,

Hi Ray,Well said, I wonder how many flight simmers are out there who consider the monitor something you just stare at. Upgrading to thismonitor made as much a difference (almost) than the ugrade to a GF4Ti4200 a few weeks ago.Happy flyingHelmut
