March 19, 200323 yr FELL OFF!!!What can I use to put it back on? Should I take it to a computer shop or is it something I can do myself? I know its more complicated than applying thermal grease to the processor/heatsink, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.EDIT: These are the heatsinks off of the memory (I'm assuming), not the actual GPU.
March 19, 200323 yr Just go buy a tube of thermal sililcone and use a little dab to put it back on. You can find thermal silicone at any automotive or hardware store. Be sure to get the thermal kind, usually orange or black. The clear stuff can't stand up to heat. They are usually a couple of dollars for a small tube.
March 19, 200323 yr The Silicone That was mentioned above has no thermal conducting properties and as such could do more harm than good. It is meant to withstand the high heat of automotive applications. You also have to be careful with certain Silicone based products as a byproduct of these is Acetic acid. Not good sometimes in a computer. Take heat sink compound and spread it evenly over the surface you are looking to cover except for the corners allowing a small space were you can dab a SMALL drop of Crazy Glue (Cyanocrylate). Carefully place the heatsink over the memory chip and hold in place for 10 seconds. Your done. If it is the heatsink off the GPU you can do the exact same thing.Bobby
