Hi Everyone....I just built my new computer (by myself) and everything went fairly good. I loaded my OS, did the updates, and loaded FS2002 in.When I took off, I went into spot view and then noticed stuttering, not sound, but video. The stuttering is; When I am flying in VC, Spot, or Tower view, the sim will not "pause" literally, but little pauses (stutters) every 3-5 seconds and is not very enjoyable. Also when I look around the cockpit if it has the VC for view points I notice this same stutter. If the aircraft I am flying, Such as 767 PIC, for example (which has 2D bitmaps for view points, btw.) it will not stutter when I look around. This happens in all areas of FS2002, my hardware setup is in my sig, and here is my software setup.- Windows 2000 Professional w/ SP3- DirectX 9.0- Nvidia Nforce2 drivers from the Asus website- 43.45 for my video card drivers.- Flight Simulator 2002 Pro.Anyway, Any help I get will be greatly appreciated and that person sha'll be blessed for life!Edit: Forgot to mention, at the moment I am currently using on-board sound.

Is some program going nuts and radically using CPU cycles? Take a look at the task manager's performance tab. If its going up and down rapidly, you got a misbehaving program. This may or may not solve your problem, since theres a lot of factors, but usually (99% of the time) on my computer, jumpiness is caused by a misbehaving program, and its usually my zip drive's drivers acting up.

System Idle process is going @ 99.... whatever that means....-Onboard LAN too, if thats a factor.... Should I turn most of the ONBOARD crap off? And put a 10/100 network card in a PCI slot (which i do have) and my sound card?

Weird!just checked the BIOS went into intergrated perhiprials and my video thing is set to PCI VGA...

LOL The Idle process is where the CPU generously donates cycles to do.......nothing LOL. Thats the do nothing loop or "keep busy loop" basically. Just keeps the CPU busy doing something (nothing). As for the onboard stuff, try stuffing that soundcard and netcard in and turning off onboard and see if it helps out.

just went in and set my graphics arpiteture or whatever to 128... didnt change a thing...

I guess ASUS has this problem. Anyone have any MB recommendations for my CPU?

There's nothing wrong with the MB, Shane.First, have you tried setting the sound acceleration to "Basic"? If not, Start>Run... Type "dxdiag">OK>"Sound" tab at the top of the page. Along the left side is "DirectX Features". Adjust the slider to "Basic".If that doesn't work... have you disabled ALL integrated peripherals yet? Try disabling them all just for troubleshooting purposes.Onboard AC97 Audio ControllerOnboard AC97 Modem ControllerOnboard Lan (nVidia)Onboard Lan (3Com)Onboard 1394 DeviceDisable all these just for testing purposes. They are on Advanced>Integrated Peripherals page of the BIOS.

I almost have them eliminated.... I am running the 30.82, almost gone, upgrading to windows XP tommorow, 30.82 has the blurries/fuzzys.

I have now upgraded to Windows XP Pro.I loaded in the 40.72's. Went and turned everything up for quality, and got nothing but stutters. I turned anti-aliasing OFF and now I don't have stutters but have really sharp edges and crappy looking stuff. *Sigh*

Shane, Step away from the machine!! LoL. Take a deep breath and stop for a second. There have been quite a few Bios updates for that particular board. Your running the latest one right?. Take a deep breathe and try this. It's a bit of work but based on the running amuck that your going through right now it will get you were you want to go. First step is to grab the latest Bios from Asus and reformat your HD. Not just a quick wipe but a nice long reformat.LoL. Now, you say you bought XP. Install windows XP using the minimum install or whatever suits your choosing. The next step is up to you but personally I wouldn't install SP1. Now that you have your machine w just an OS installed reboot and set your onboard LAN to disabled (Your going to do this becuase your going to use the NIC you said you have) Disable onboard audio and set AGP fast writes to enabled if the Bios supports it and AGP Aperture size to 128.Also, make sure your AGP is set to 4X and not 8X unless your Video Card supports 8X AGP.Reboot your machine. Now go in and update your chipset drivers to the latest version available. Do this before you do anything else. After this is done if it doesnt prompt you for a reboot..REBOOT anyway. Now install DX9. Make sure you install DX9 before you install your Video Card drivers. Reboot if not prompted. Now install the latest set of Drivers for your card. At this point you should be looking at a new machine w the latest Bios, Chipset, DirectX version and Video CArd drivers. Hang on 'cause we are almost there. At this point it's up to you if you want to live w the defualt MS drivers for your sound card and NIC. If you cant install each individually rebooting after each one. Sit back for a minute, pat yourself on the back and whip out that FS2K2 disk. Let it do it's magic. When it is fully installed exit out and geuss what....REBOOT. When the machine comes back up go into the properties of your Video card and set AA to 4X and AF to 8X. If the option presents itself check performance on those settings. Now here's the catch. You cant run the sliders in FS2K2 were I think your trying to with that card Bud. Sorry but it won't cut the mustard. Try turning down Visibilty to around 60 miles, cloud density to around 55-60, terrain down to around 80. Set your max light numbers to 4 and Af to Bi-linear. I know what your saying but trust me A: It won't look like CRAP and B: you have the option of going in and turning each one up gradually one at a time till you start to experience stutters. Also remember to chage the terrain settings in FSconfig according to pauls rec. Next, take a little trip over to WWW.Blackviper.com and dig through the page till you find his windows XP services tweak page. Follow his directions to the letter and you'll probably free up about 70 megs of ram. Fire up FS and giggle w delight at how it looks and how it flies. You've got a nice setup you just have to put the right parts in the right place in the right order. Good Luck!!Bobby

Bobby,Thank you very much I am printing all this out to go and do it.Oh NO i am not running the latest BIOS because if I messed it up I would have big trouble... LOLI am sorry what I did in another thread in MS General.Oh and, it just says Enable support for AGP 8X, when i disable it, my card goes back to 2X agp, then I have to enable it to get my 4X AGP back.

Shane, You seem to have a semi firm grip on computers so updating your bios should be something you can handle. I don't remember if your board supports it but if it has ASUS ezbios update option available use it. You really can't mess it up that way. Just follow the directions on the ASUS website for updating your bios to the letter. I gaurantee you that is probably 90% of your problem is the outdated BIOS. Also, when you visit Blackviper.com and read over the services tweaks, use the settings under the internet column. Anything to the right of this column can result in an unstable machine. Trust me I know LOL. Let me know how you make out.Bobby
