May 3, 200323 yr Commercial Member I got a nice new Radeon 9700 Pro All-in-Wonder card today, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it work with the newest Catalyst drivers (or rather, how to make it work with all its features). I tried downloading and installing the 3.2 drivers and it worked fine, but on reboot during the driver install screens my system was reporting several "unknown" devices for which it couldn't find drivers. I figured I'd need to use the full installation from the CD. After uninstalling the 3.2s, I installed from CD and everything worked fine, as I was expecting, with all the correct drivers installed for the video capture, DVD Dec, etc. and no problems reported in the device manager. Problem is, they're older versions of Catalyst and FS2002 -- which is the main reason I got the card in the first place -- doesn't run very well with them, and IL2 locked up immediately in OpenGL mode.I tried re-installing the 3.2 Catalysts, and now FS2002 works great and look fantastic, but I'm back to having a bunch of device problems reported in hardware manager and unrecognized devices instead of the proper ones for the AIW. I guess my question is, is there an up-to-date driver package for the AIW series that gives the performance of the 3.2 Catalyst and will also work with my AIW so the various other devices such as TV tuner, vid capture, etc. also work? Here are my specs:Athlon XP2800+ CPUAsus A7N8X Mobo512MB PC2700 DDR RAMRadeon AIW 9700 ProWin XP ProDX 9.0thanks,Bill Womack Bill Womack ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Visit my FS Blog or follow me on Twitter (username: bwomack). May 3, 200323 yr Bill,Exactly what devices are showing up?. You can try WWW.Omegacorner.Com for a set of updated drivers for the card. If you give some specifics maybe I can help you out.Bobby
May 3, 200323 yr I recently installed a different card (9500 Pro), but had similar problems. When I first put the card in, I ignored the drivers on CD and instead got the updated ones, but they didn't work. There's apparently software on CD you don't get in the web drivers, so I started over again and put the CD stuff in first. Then I tried to get the updated 3.2s off the web and initially had some problems. For me, what solved it was that you can install the new drivers over the old, but you also must install the new version of the control panel that's on the website. Follow the instructions exactly like they say on the web--download both at the same time, install the 3.2 drivers first, you'll have to reboot, then install the control panel and reboot again. From then on, it was smooth sailing for me--well, actually it was on to settings difficulties, but I no longer had driver problems. You can also try the Omegas, and you can install their drivers over the basic CD ones, but you have to get rid of the ATI Control Panel first, which I didn't like and didn't work well on my system. But your results might be different.Marc
May 3, 200323 yr I got those unknown devices on my 7200 VIVO before. I believe theres a certain order to install everything. I think its the same process, although maybe different on your AIW.On my system its:1) Install capture drivers2) Install display drivers3) Install Control PanelI got those unknowns when I installed the display drivers before the capture ones (was like the first time I upgraded the drivers).
May 4, 200323 yr Author Commercial Member Thanks, Zack. I got the same advice from a helpful soul on the rage3d.com message boards, and it worked great. Man, ATI doesn't make this stuff easy to figure out. But happily, I've got everything humming along fine now. What a magnificent card once you get it set up right!thanks, Bill Womack ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Visit my FS Blog or follow me on Twitter (username: bwomack).
