Hey All,Not sure where to really post this, and I'm sorry if it is in the wrong place.I reformatted my hard drive, so everything is fresh! But there is a problem. Whenever I try to move windows around... resize them and what not, the computer will freeze for about 10 seconds... the screen will go black for a brief moment... then it will come back with the window looking all funky. If I open another window, it "refreshes" the funky window, and all is good again. My specs are below:-------------------Windows XP Home EditionPentium 4, 1.4gHz512MB RAMGeForce 4200, 64MB RAMDirectX 9.0a (it did the same thing with 8.1)-------------------Any help would be GREATLY appreciated... it is really messing me up. Many thanks in advance!==========================================Jeff M.

Hi Jeff,What you describe sounds familiar, and (in my experience) seems only to occur with XP-systems.You might want to (temporarily) shut down some (for FS unneeded) services.Check the following site for -how to- and all related info:http://www.blackviper.comyou'll have to experiment with the settings a bit.regards,Pim

Thanks for the info.Unfortunatley, it still hasn't resolved my issue. And it is to the point when I just want to kick the living &$^# out of the computer. Every time I move a window or try to resize a window... it freezes for 15 seconds, flickers black... then shows the window again... all funky this time. PLEASE HELP!

what drivers are you running?

Posted

It is amazing the number of posters that reformat their hardrive only to find their fresh OS installation doesn't work properly. It would be unique if a vanilla OS installation worked without additional driver installation. So what could be the problem? What CCGR means by drivers are your controller chips, diskdrive accelerator, graphics adapter, sound, etc. drivers. Most posters understand they must install the graphics adapter and sound drivers but have no clue about the controller chips and diskdrive accelerator drivers.I recommend you open device manager, syetem devices, and look for entries:Intel PCI to AGP ControllerVIA PCI...SiS PCI...or look at the manual for your MOBO to see if it lists the controller chips vendor, then install those drivers. Check the vendor and MOBO manufacturer's website for updated drivers.
