May 5, 200323 yr Some background first. I have a CMedia 8738 onboard sound card(rest of my specs are in the sig). I have an old Soundblaster 16 that I am considering ripping out of my old decripit computer that is laying around. Now to my questions1) Can I use these two sound cards together? With no problems? Would I need to do some drive hacks?2) Can I use these two sound cards for different things? I want to start using Roger Wilco for online flights, and I would like to have the pilot voices only output on my headphones, and the airplane sounds on my 4.1 speakers.3) If I can use the two gadets together like I would like, how would I go about setting up the two sound cards to have different output in FS and in RW?4) Which would you recommend for the voice? SB 16? And airplane sounds on the 8738? Or the other way around?Sorry for the ton of disorganized questions :D:-beerchug
May 6, 200323 yr I would recommend disabling your onboar sound and going straight through to your sound card
May 6, 200323 yr That won't give you the function you want, i.e., Roger Wilco, will it? I have the CMedia 8738 sound chip on my Soyo Dragon+ MOBO and the sounds coming from it are excellent. The only problem with this MOBO is Soyo design makes all the on-boards use IRQ11. Bill Sieffert
May 6, 200323 yr Sorry to jump in here but I have a question. I've been having some terrible sound-feedback problems. I noticed that my AC'97 was sharing IRQ11 with several devices. Could that be a problem? Also, do I need to look inside the computer to determine which sound chip I have? Thanks,Todd
May 6, 200323 yr There are several vendors of AC'97 Chips, so the answer is yes, you need to know the chip vendor to install the proper drivers. Some are:VIA - http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2CMedia - http://www.cmedia.com.tw/e_product_01.htmRealTek - http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/product...aspx?modelid=28You can do a google search for others. If you know the MOBO manufacturer, you should visit their website first to see if they have updated drivers.Whether the sound-feedback problem is associated with shared IRQ11 I can't say. However, your computer probably has been sharing this IRQ11 since you got it, unless you added something later that caused the sharing. If you have a microphone attached to this computer, open the audio control panel and shut the microphone channel off. If you have speech software on this computer, turn it off. Bill Sieffert
