Help! 9700 Pro Lockup problems in FS2002.

Featured Replies

I have done everything I can think of, and still have problems with the 9700 Pro locking up after just a few minutes of FS2002. I have fast writes turned off, and have tried both the ATI and Omega Cat 3.1 and 3.2 drivers. I've also experimented with various configs.Even started with a clean format with XP. What else can I do here? The graphics generated by this card are outstanding....when it runs.I've already searched the archives here, but can't really find anything I haven't tried. Thanks, Mark9700 Pro (no OC) AGP 8XSoyo Dragon Ultra MB, latest BIOSVia Drivers Hyperion 4.46P4 2.81 Gig RAMSB LiveDX 9.0aWin XP Pro

My first suspicion is that it may not be the graphics card itself. It may be locking up due to a bad memory chip or something else is overheating. Do you have the 9700 overclocked? If so, put it back at the default settings and see what happens.Run SiSandra 2003 and check out the temps of the cpu, memory, etc. One easy thing you could try, is take the computer case off so any extra heat can simply rise up and out. I had that happened on another system, and taking the cover off solved the lockup problem. If that works, you may want to spend some bucks on a well-ventilated case with intake fans and outake fans. Heat is your worst enemy as you keep adding components.Hope this has been of some help to you.Keith

Mark,Is FS2002 the only thing that locks the card up?. Have you removed and reinstalled the Memory to eliminate the issue of creep?. Is your power supply up to snuff?. Are you providing Aux power to the card from a shared molex or are you pulling from an independant plug?. Latest Bios..Which revision? Are you running the latest Creative drivers?. What was your order of installation for Bios, 4 in 1's and DX9?. Correct order is to make sure your Bios is the latest revision. Install the OS and than install the 4in1's, than install DX9 than install the latest Creative drivers than install the latest series of Omega drivers. You have substituted memory to eliminate it as an issue? Also, I wouldn't use Sandra 2003 for temps. Not always accurate. Use your Bios hardware monitoring software or my personal choice MBM ( Motherboard Monitor.Let me know how you make out.Bobby

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think I may have isolated the problem. When I drop the AGP from 8x back to 4x, it seems to work okay.Too bad I can't run an 8x card on an 8x motherboard! Anyway, I'll keep playing with it. Thanks for all the good suggestions!

No problem :)Don't be too upset about not running 8X AGP. A: Most benchmarks show a drop in performance when 8X is enabled and B: There is not a program out there right now or coming within the next year that can fully fill the 4XAGP bandwidth.Bobby
