Any suggestions on witch mobo/cpu I should buy?I'm thinking of sticking to AMD chips. My budjet is about 500-600$ canadian dollars. witch is around 400$ american I think. Thanks
June 8, 200322 yr Check out Newegg for a cpu and mobo. I got mine with a new psu for about $150 US. You might stick with the Athlon XPs. HTH.Todd
June 9, 200322 yr Hi Alex,I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, an Athlon XP3000+ and 1GB of Kingston PC2700 RAM. FS runs extremely well, and I would recommend this combination to anyone. If you shop around, it should be within your price range. The XP3000 has dropped considerably in price since the XP3200 came out - when the XP3000 was first released, it sold for $975 CDN, right now it's $350 CDN at a local shop here in Vancouver. As far as newegg.com goes, bear in mind that they're American, so you'll have to pay customs on their products, which could cancel out any savings.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
June 11, 200322 yr Hi Alex, looks good, one suggestion, though - the XP2400+ runs at 266MHz FSB, so it will be out of synch with 333MHz RAM. This can lead to a degradation in performance (unless you're thinking of overclocking your CPU, and want to make sure you got extra speed available in your RAM). Basically, you have two options:1.) Spending less money: Buy PC2100 RAM instead, it will run at 266MHz, just as the CPU and should give you a smoother performance. A good idea, if you're looking to upgrade again in the future to one of the 400MHz FSB CPUs, which would require new RAM anyway.2.) Spending more money: Buy an XP2500+ (Barton) or XP2700+ (T'bred), they run at 333MHz, just like your RAM.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
