Bios problems !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I had a new thread running about my bios problems before the Forum crash. it now seems post crash that some of the threads have disappeared! Never mind! Here's what is going on....I have recently built a new machine from scratch and i am having problems with the bios settings! When i boot up my system the clock speed is shown as AMD Anthlon 1250mhz. When infact i have an 2800XP amd with 333FSBThe board is a MIS KT400 board. Now i fully admit that i hate playing with the bios. i havn't got a clue what i'm doing so therefore i try to leave it alone and my only input will be the boot up seqence. After my post yesterday i recieved some advice from 2 different people.Firstly i was told to download LIVE Update 2. I did this and updated my bios with all the current files! no joy. Still 1250mhz!Secondly i was told by someone else to check that my setting CLOCK FREQ was set to AUTO.I am unable to find this setting and in fear of messing up the whole thing have left it alone!I have read thru the manual several times and am unable to find any answers to my problem. Please guys what next?CheersDaren:-zhelp :-zhelp :-zhelp :-zhelp MIS KT400 MotherboardAMD 2800xp with 333FSBGeoforce 4 MX80 GB HDDWindows XP Pro:-zhelp

First, I think you mean MSI vice MIS! If so, which KT400 board do you have. I downloaded the manual for the KT-400Ultra using an AMIBIOS (E6590v1.5). Visit http://www.rojakpot.com/ for a step-by-step guide to each BIOS setting. On page 3-13 is the Advanced Chipset Features control page of BIOS. Select DRAM Timing Control . A submenu page opens. Look for Current host clock (See next section below for adjusting the clock speed). Notice if the Configure SDRAM Timing by SDRAM Frequency is set to SPD. Once you adjust the clock below, the Current host clock should increase. On page 3-28 is the Frequency/Voltage control page of BIOS. Try slowly changing the FSB frequency, i.e., 133, 266MHz. Reboot the computer and load Windows to check what it says your CPU is running. On page 3-4, you have two selections, Load High Performance Defaults and Load BIOS Setup Defaults. They load the different sections of the many BIOS menu pages with default settings. If you select the Load High Performance Defaults, you can then see how it differs from the Load BIOS Setup Defaults. NOTE: just make sure you exit BIOS without Saving to maintain the present BIOS settings. Many MOBO's have problems loading the high performance defaults, so I recommend starting with the Load BIOS Setup Defaults to begin. If you have followed the instructions from MSI about resetting the CMOS after a BIOS update, you normally use one of the two setup defaults to load the selection.
