Best Video Card for Under $200?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering what the best mid-range video card is? I'm looking for something that would be ideal for a 1.8 ghz, 512 ram, 80 gb/ 8mb buffer hard drive system. I was looking at some of the Radeon 9000/9500 models, but I wanted to find out what would be the best card for under $200 would be. Thanks.

I would suggest the Radeon 9500. I looked on pricewatch.com and saw that one of those bad boys could be had for $134, and that is the 128 mb model :9

I too would recommend the 9500Pro FX 5600 if you like the Nvidia offerings.

Thanks guys. I think that solves it... I'll go for the Radeon 9500 in a couple of months when I have the money for it. I put it into my budget, and September was the best month to do it. That is my birthday month so maybe I could toss in a hint or two to my family, hehe.P.S. I could find it as low as 100 on Ebay.

Ebay might be the only place you can get the 9500 in a couple months. It's been replaced by the 9600, and I don't think the 9500 is still in production.Dan

Actually, I think I am going to go for the GF4 Ti4600 card... it has somewhat better performance than the 9500, and has about the same price. I was looking at the Gainward Golden one, but thats a little over $200 on eBay, and retails for some $260 or something. I'm thinking a NVIDIA model will be just fine, and I can find it for $130 on eBay. Anyone know what the best Ti4600 under $200 would be?

Probably, until you enable AA and AF at which point the 9500Pro starts to walk the dog so to speak over the 4600. With all do respect the 4600 is "Old" hardware. 4 piprlinrs for the 46 vs 8 for the 9500. Just the bandwidth diff. alone is worth the card. The 9500Pro running the Omega drivers w the 95-9700 soft mod will perform at or above stock clocked 9700 specs. In all honesty if you read the spec comparo there is no comparison at this price range. The 9500Pro simply can't be beat. But in the end it's your money. I just get frustrated seeing it thrown away so to speak. Good luck w your choice either way. :)Bobby

LOL... sorry guys, its back to Radeon, but I think I'm going to shell out the extra cash and go for the 9700 Pro card. I can find it new on eBay for about $260. Is there a specific manufacturer I should shoot for or are they all exactly the same?

ewwww. Ebay. Good luck not getting the shaft. :-roll But anyway for a new system I was working on putting together I had my eyeball on "POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9700 128MB GOLD DDR CRT+DVI+TV 8X AGP RETAIL ,NOT 9700 PRO " over @ newegg for $215. Saw it for a few bucks cheaper at other places with free shipping also. But since I haven't had any trouble from newegg as of yet. For the few bucks more would go with them over a place I haven't ordered from before. But like you said for another $50 you can get a pro from a seller off of ebay. But then for another $50 and so on and so on. Have to stop somewhere. hehehe

Bob... eBay is not really that bad at all. I've bought quite a few things off of there... theres MANY people selling brand new items, so you just have to look for those. I try not to buy used items, but even then, I havent been let down. I know that doesnt mean I can't be let down, but I'm very positive that buying a card off of eBay will be just fine.
