July 14, 200322 yr Need some ideas on why I can't login to a network.I have a WinME computer that I want to add to my MAGENTA network. It will run PM A320 MCDU and HCSDT A320 OHL.For reasons I can't determine, I can't login to the network. When I start the computer I get the Login in window. The computer name is Mcdu. I leave the password empty and click OK.System boots but I never get the LOG OFF area when I click on Start. I see Run, Help, and Search but no Log Off.I think that is why when I select Explorer and click on My Network Places, Entire Network, I never can see the MAGENTA workgroup or the other computers.Things I had done but have not fixed the problem:- Made sure others computers have Sharing enabled (other computers can see each other).- Used a WinXP Network setup disk to create network (worked on other WinME computers.- Deleted .PWL password files. What am I missing? July 20, 200322 yr I assume you are using a Network Interface Card on the WinME computer and you are either using an external router or Windows LAN router software. Several things to check:If you have the Network Interface Icon on your desktop, right click it and select properties. Select the Identification tab and check to see if the Workgroup is identical to your other computers, i.e., WORKGROUP, MSHOME, etc. If the Workgroup name is identical, select the Configuration tab:Generally it should have the following entries:Client for Microsoft NetworksMicrosoft Family LogonDial-Up Adapter - if you have a dial-up modemFast Ethernet PCI Adapter - Network interface cardIPX/SPX-compatible protocol - if you use IPX/SPX, you will have multiple entries for dial-up modem and NIC.NetBEUI - if you use IPX/SPXNETBIOS support for IPX/SPXTCP/IP protocol - you will have multiple entries for dial-up modem and NIC.File and printer sharing for Microsoft NetworksIf you use IPX/SPX, select any of the IPX/SPX-compatible protocols and enable "I want to enable NetBIOS over IPX/SPX.If any of the protocols or services are missing, add them with the Add button, under Microsoft.Under Primary Network Logon, change to Microsoft Family Logon. This eliminates the step of having the password box load everytime you start your computer. If you use file and printer sharing, select each of your TCP/IP entries and unBIND, file and printer sharing from each. This, of course, is if you use IPX/SPX behind your router to your other computers, otherwise, if you use TCP/IP only then you will have to decide if security of shared files is adequate.Check to see if your Router/router software is providing a unique IP address. Press Start, Run..., type Winipcfg, OK. Select your NIC, and see if it have a unique IP address, i.e., 192.168.0.6. The other blocks should also have information. Bill Sieffert
