July 18, 200322 yr Steve,Hmmmm. On your POST screen (right after you turn on your computer), does it say 'AMD Athlon XP 2200+' or something like that? In you system config info in Windows, what speed/type of CPU does windows see your CPU as?My dad had some very similar issues when he got his new computer. His problems included any 3D game going nuts and crashing the computer. The cause of this was an underclocked CPU, which(I can only speculate beyond this point) affected the AGP slot, causing it to not function at the proper timings or something. So the first step in figuring this out is to see if your CPU is clocked properly :)
July 18, 200322 yr Steve,Are you running the latest BIOS? Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
July 18, 200322 yr Hi Fred John,Have flashed the latest bios, found out from Epox that the cpuis incorrect even tho it states that it is ok on the English cpulist for the mobo, Epox have stated that the list is wrong..!!the German list is correct and this states XP2100 Palamino is themax for my board.....Epox innitialy stated that the CPU would beok with a new bios and not to worry that the cpu string was not being reconized.......it was showing clock speed of 1800 mhz with 133/266fsb So I returned to my AMD 1.33 TB only to find that the hard lock upswere still there, so I went to the Creative site for my new card andwent thru every suggested item they listed for video hang ups, ranthru the bios, did what they said, still no go, so I thought maybe isheat related even tho the cpu temp was 43c and case 28C, took the side off and placed a big office type fan to blow in...bang lockedup hard......took the card out and reseated it just in case.....banglock up......removed the card from system list so the pc would boot into safe mode and load pci/vga adaptor and then the Creative 44.04 driver...no go......so maybe the cpu change was ok after all and there is something else wrong........I used to have hair......only thing to do is return to my old gf 256 pro video card and se what happens, thing that gets me is when I installed the new G4 Ti it ran with my AMD 1.33 for 4 days, upto 6 hours without reboot, no problems..so now I'm lost, and very pizzed off.........*EDIT* returned to Geforce 256 video and yep there are the lock ups..!!.................Steve x(
July 18, 200322 yr Wow, Steve, sounds like you're having a time of it.Something else to check... in the BIOS make sure that "Fast Writes" and "Sideband Addressing" are both turned OFF (disabled). Also, you might want to make sure that the AGP is set correctly (should be 8X. If your MB can't be set that high, then go with 4X).Hang in there. It will all get sorted.
July 19, 200322 yr Hi Greg,Thanks for the reply and input, have already tried these bios settings + Video bios shadow off, they were listed at Creative, took two goes at replying cos it hung in the middle of typing, the word Bx( LLx( X comes to mind........Steve
July 19, 200322 yr In studying a previous post here, it seems to me that all was well (with the new video card) until you went to the new CPU and (BIOS). Perhaps it's time to dump the new BIOS amd let the MB reset to the default BIOS (your MB manual should tell you how to reset the BIOS).Gotta get this thing at least back to where it was, and then start troubleshooting each change.Keep us posted,
