9800 Pro DVI Output Question.....

Featured Replies

Posted at Rage3D forums, but I thought I'd try the excellent help here too: :)I'm a new owner of a 9800 pro, having changed from a long line of nVidia products.I'm a little confused about the "dual head" card and the VGA/DVI connectors on the card, and how these interact. Does the primary and secondary displays feed these 2 outputs seperately- and is that a fixed relationship (ie. primary = always VGA output)? If I plug a DVI cable into that connector and coonect it to my FPD, which leaves no connection to the VGA output, am I invoking the secondary device but disabling the first- and if so, what are the implications?I have tried connecting my VGA cable (to my FPD) to the DVI connector via the DVI -> VGA adaptor, and obtained no output (Win XP) after drivers were mounted on boot-up. I'm assuming either that the DVI output needs to be enabled somewhere, or the card doesn't like not having a VGA connection to that connector.Thanks,Bruce.

You should see a displays tab on your control panel. There you'll see what's active and should be able to configure it there. The primary vga is active by default. I've never hooked up a second monitor; but it's done through the DVI connection with an adaptor to the second monitor. If you didn't configure it; that's probably why you didn't get any output. Should also be some readme files. Can't be of much help as I've never tried it!
