July 23, 200322 yr Hardware know-it-alls,I'm currently running a P4 1.8 GHz processor but would like a little more juice out of her. I am a complete 'newbe' to overclocking and would like some advice on how to achieve what I want relativly safely. Ideally get her up to 2.1 - 2.2 Ghz if that is possible? Need to prepare myself for those FS2004 clouds etc. :)Regards,Adam Nardone
July 24, 200322 yr To give you really good advice, What Motherboard is in your machine? You may not be able to do it at all. What type and speed of memory are you running? Are you running the factory HS/Fan combo or aftermarket. It's not as easy as one post stated(Crank up the FSB) A lot more goes into it than just that. If it's a Dell, Compaq, HP you probably will not be able to do it at all.Get back to me and let me know your system specs. Than you'll have a better answer. :)Bobby
July 25, 200322 yr Thank you for your responces,Firstly yes my computer is a Dell Dimension 8200 purchased in November of last year. I have 384 MB RAM and to be honest not too sure about the rest. Also, not too sure how to check it all to see what it is.Any further help greatly appriciated.Regards,Adam Nardone
July 25, 200322 yr Start->Run->Type "dxdiag" without the quotes, that will tell you lots about your system.
July 26, 200322 yr Dell eh? Kiss goodbye to any type of overclocking. Their motherboard and BIOS' won't allow for any type of FSB overclock. Looks like you're going to be stuck with the current speed. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
July 26, 200322 yr Cheers for the responce John, even if it wasn't what I was looking for. LOL :-lol. Guess I'll just have to buy a new system after all. :)Regards,Adam Nardone
July 27, 200322 yr Dell and other 'off the self' makers limit what you can do in the BIOS. Obviously this is to stop people tinkering and frying something :-lol Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
