August 28, 200322 yr I use Microsoft Outlook for my email and this seems to happen often, once I am done with the program, and I go to the Task Manager "OUTLOOK.EXE" is running and this case twice, both using 12 MB of memory but yet my email is closed, so I end both processes and everything is fine, next time I use outlook it works fine and when I close it, the same thing happens, someimtes only one outlook.exe or 2 or 3, one time there were 5 running always using 12 MB of memory, anyone have any ideas on why this happens?http://members.shaw.ca/kstangrecki/resources.jpg
August 29, 200322 yr Since you are running on a network you might want to talk to one of your netadmins.
August 29, 200322 yr I am not running on a network. It's just this computer on a 10 MBPS Cable connection.
August 29, 200322 yr Sorry, you said you have Outlook and that program is the default Microsoft client for exchange. I am not aware that it can run independently of Exchange and since you said you are having problems with it, I assumed your netadmins should be able to resolve the issue. Question: How do you run Outlook as an independent program? Only Outlook Express runs as a normal SMTP client without the exchange interface. Personally, I run Eudora because of the problems Outlook Express brings to the table. Of course, here at work we run Outlook because we are running Exchange for our mail server and Outlook fits nicely with it and everyone on the network is very familiar with it.
August 29, 200322 yr I just installed Microsoft Office XP Deluxe, set it up and away I went, I didn't have to do anything specail to get it to work.
September 2, 200322 yr Microsoft Outlook has the option during setup to be used with the Internet just like Outlook Express. The benefits are the other portions of Outlook not available with Outlook Express. As Tgabriel indicates, Outlook is generally used with Exchange. I haven't set up Outlook on any computers for approx 2 1/2 since I retired, so I can't help with the dual processeses. However, I would check to see if under options within Outlook if it has a box to check that starts Outlook when Windows starts. If so, unselect that box, reboot, and see if the instance shows up. You might restart your computer first to see if this is occuring prior to looking for a checkbox.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
September 2, 200322 yr I checked within Outlook and found no such option that you have talked about, but I can tell you that it is not there before I start it up, after I log on, go the task manager, there is not Outlook running at all.
