September 30, 200322 yr Plan to purchase a new nvidia video card for FS2004. Is 256 meg ram necessary or is 128 plenty? Thanks,Richard
September 30, 200322 yr Hi Richard, generally speaking, 128MB should be plenty for FS2004. But you should also take into consideration, how long you want to keep your new card before the next upgrade, what other programs you use, and how much graphics memory they require. Also consider the price difference - if money is no object, you might as well go with 256MB, it can't do any harm. However, if that means the difference between getting, say, a 9700 with 128 MB, or a 9200 with 256MB, go for the 9700, i.e. choose the better graphics processor over larger memory.Cheers,Gosta. http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
October 1, 200322 yr This is good advice. Not a lot of software currently uses the extra memory on the video cards, though it can be expected to in the future.
October 1, 200322 yr Thanks guys!System is used only for FS2004. Primary computer in a home flightdeck. May go with a 256 meg card, but I know that the day after I purchase the card there will be a major price drop.Richard
October 2, 200322 yr Actually FS9 is one of only a handful of APPS that can fill a 128Meg VC. Hold on for a month or 2 and wait for the nextGen Radeons. I think you'll be quite impressed. My choice. 256Bobby
