USB adapter for Joystick

Featured Replies

I've got an old Suncom SFS joystick and throttle with old printer-style cable. Is there a way to make them USB compatible so I can use the dual throttle feature on the throttle? Would I gain anything if there were an adapter?

As long as the potentiometers inside the stick and throttle are still good (i.e. they don't cause jumping of the aircraft's control surfaces or throtlle), then you can buy an interface to make them USB. There are a few inexpensive ones from Radio Shack and the like but from what I've heard, they have pretty low resolution so they aren't too smooth.Depending upon how much you want to spend, you can either replace what you have or use a higher-resolution analog-to-USB interface for the Suncom. A friend of mine, Leo (http://www.vif.com/users/leolacava/), has a new dual 8-analog/16-digital input USB interface in the works for a total of 16-analog/32-digital inputs (http://www.vif.com/users/leolacava/usb/plasma.html). It's geared toward home cockpit builders but you could certainly use it to adapt your analog gear to USB. Alternatively, you can build a 4-analog/8-digital using the plans at http://www.vif.com/users/leolacava/usb/baby_plasma.htmlI have some of his earlier 6-analog/16-digital input interfaces.Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums ModeratorRenegade/Seawolf Design Group (RSDG)

http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/logo75t.gifBush Flying Unlimited"At home in the wild"Looking for adventure? Those look fantastic, just the thing I was looking for. It looks like it will also have expandability for when I'm able to build my cockpit as well. Thanks
