Vid card fan replacement

Featured Replies

Hi! Last august I got myself an Nvidia GeF FX5200. It's ok for my need but the fan went belly up (a real Mickey Mouse that fan!!)Can someone tell me a place or a link where I can look for a replacement fan, hopefully of a better grade. I'm in Canada and would prefer to find one this side of the border to avoid custom delays but would get it from US if needed. The alternative would be to send the card back to Nvidia, US I presume, but I'd rather pay for a better one rather than having a replacement. Thanks for any help,Hugo

I would try the vendor for a replacement fan first. I have two Visiontek cards that required new fans. They provided the new fans and instructions for installation for free.W. Sieffert

Thanks for the reply. I indeed made a search for such vendors (video card heatsink/fan combo or fan alone) but could not identify any. Have you got one (or many ;-) ) in mind I could go look for. Ok if they are in the USAHugo

I meant the maker of your graphics card, i.e., VisionTek, MSI, Monster. Is there a name on the card itself?W. Sieffert

It is, to my knowledge a genuine Nvidia product. At least it is written so on the card, Nvidia Corporation. Now does this concern only the chip or/and the whole card. Now, your'e seeding doubts into my mind :-). The internet URL refered to on the owner manual is www.xfxforce.com if that could shed a light. One other thing if it may help, the packaging boxe has an X shape. In any case, whaterver the brand is of no concern to me because I would prefer to get a quality fan/heatshink rather than to have it soly replaced by the same. The card is still under warranty and could have it repaired/replaced for free but I would have to ship it to USA (from Canada) and have to wait months to get it back and be left with a Mickey Mouse cooler. So I perfer to order one of a better grade, if it is possible. It'll be faster to.I searched the net for such supplyers, visiting the overclocking sites, in particular, thinking I could find some links there but no luck. But maybe there is no such 3rd party suppliers for video card coolers. I had in my mind there was but I may be I was wrong.Hugo

It sure looks like you purchased the graphics card from http://www.xfxforce.com/ . Generally, Nvidia only produces the GPU chips and other vendors integrate them onto their products for retail.I still recommend you try obtaining support from the original manufacturer. They may already have a better replacement fan or they may provide you with a new graphics card.W. Sieffert

Thanks W.S. Well it looks I will have to look this way. Hopefully it won't be too long a process. Meanwhile I had to revert to my previous card a GeF2 Mx200. Marginaly adequate for COF but the fan is very much working after over 2 years of usage.Again thanks for your support,Hugo
