November 29, 200322 yr Can anyone tell me what an ideal but a bit less expensive kind of processor will run FS9. I have a slow aged AMD 1.3GHZ and even FS2002 has its slow bits have tried FS9 but its to slow. I'm guessing the best processor the AMD 64 but its way to expensive. November 30, 200322 yr Go for an AMD cpu based on the Barton core (ie: XP2800+, etc) and a motherboard based on the Nvidia NForce 2 chipset that supports dual ddr. That is a good starting point. You can even go for an Intel 2.4C and a Asus P4P800 which also supports dual ddr memory.Personally, I'd choose the Intel setup for the foundation of my computer. You can build a really good machine for 1300 bucks. December 4, 200322 yr Scrap the flat panel for a CRT with more real estate...like a good flat screen 19 inch. Regardless of what most say, LCD's run at one native resolution and can only provide equal high res performance when spening ridiculous amounts of money. I personally do not think they are worth it - yet.The 9800 is far better than the 5200. Up your ram to 1gb if you can for longevity.Just my 2 cents,MikeP4 2.4C @3.44 285FSBAsus P4C800 Deluxe1gb Corsair XMS PC3500 Asus V9950 FX5900 Ultra 256mb 500/950SB Audigy2 Platinum ExWatercooled baby!!!Pics: http://community.webshots.com/user/chksix2002
December 6, 200322 yr I agree. . .go CRT for now. I just played FS2004 on my father's computer with a 19" LCD. . .it looks nice, but there was occaisional shadowing, something non-existant on a CRT. I managed to get a pretty good setup for now, that is all maxxed out, but I already have a monitor, keyboard/mouse, speakers, CDRW, and all the rest of the peripherals. . .but still, my best friend when it comes to computers is pricewatch.com. Take care and good luck!-drewKLGBedit: forgot to mention that after 2 years of use, I finally ditched my Nvidia G4Ti4600 for a Radeon 9800XT. As of now, all reviews I've read point to ATI as the vidcard leader. . .I'd recommend the ATI over the FX5200 also.
