December 16, 200322 yr A little help from the experts please. Got an ATi 9800 non-pro at a great price and would like to overclock it to 9800 Pro speeds. Have read that the cards are identical except for the BIOS. Do not want to get into
December 16, 200322 yr Go to www.rage3d.com general radeon discussion and ask the boys over there. They'll be glad to help you out.
December 16, 200322 yr When overclocking, the first thing you'll notice when you start pushing the card too hard is the 'tearing' effect of textures. When you see this, you should turn the settings down a notch until it disappears. It is doubtful that you'll cook your card, however overclocking can shorten it's life over the duration of time.Rage3d is a great place to get more info on overclocking the 9800 to pro speeds. All cards are built differently, and what your limit is may not be another cards overclocking 'ceiling'.MikeP4 2.4C @3.44 285FSBAsus P4C800 Deluxe1gb Corsair XMS PC3500 Asus V9950 FX5900 Ultra 256mb 500/950SB Audigy2 Platinum ExWatercooled baby!!!Pics: http://community.webshots.com/user/chksix2002
December 18, 200322 yr J-D,A friend and I bought the same card at the same time from a local retailer, selling the board at an unbelievable price. We've installed these into our little Shuttle systems, his with a 200w, and mine with a 220w power supply. Our 3DMark scores went from the mid 1600's (Ti4600) to the mid 4600's! Needless to say, we were VERY happy. :-beerchugHe pushed the board to 380core/327mem when he started to see Artifacts in the moving water in the "Mother Nature" test. Trying the memory any higher caused the system to reboot in the middle of the test. He backed off the memory a little and all is well in graphics-land :-)Based on his tests, I'm running at 380/324 without a problem, and considering the price, I'm very satisfied with the 9800np board.Just my .02,Tom KONT
