Good morning and thanks in advance for any suggestions. I just installed WD's 74GB Raptor SATA hard drive last night. All went smoothly but I have not put anything on it yet. It's my 2nd drive and will be used only for FS9-related stuff. What should I use for "allocation size" when partitioning the drive with Win XP's diskmgmt.mcs program? Please let me know if I should not use the 'default' choice. P.S. Is it really true that it doesn't matter whether you use the SATA or legacy power connector? WD says there's no advantage to the SATA power connector.Specs:Intel D875PBZ moboP4 3.2 Ghz1Gb DDR400 RAM, set up for dual-channelMaxtor 120Gb 7200RPM, 8Mb cache HDWD740GD 74Gb, 10,000RPM, 8Mb cache HDATI 9800XTCD and DVD R/W drives (2)SB Audigy2WinXP Pro, up to dateThanks again,sjKEWR

Visit http://www.xmission.com/~comphope/jargon/hdd.htm and select FAT32 and NTFS. Read about the cluster sizes version partitions sizes with FAT32.Even with NTFS, you may still want to partition the hardrive in case you want to reformat a certain partition to clean it up. If you only have one partition, then the job is harder.Don't know about the latter question.W. Sieffert

WD says there's no advantage to the SATA >>power connector.I tried to find that out without success.. I did use the new SATA power connectors on my new build for the WD Serial ATA HDD, but found no reason to over the legacy plugs. Searched the net but came up empty. Only used them because I could and because they MIGHT be better... and they came with the new MB :-)Best,

It doesn't matter which connector is used... just that both ARE NOT used. It's a one-or-the-other situation. I used the SATA connectors that came with my A7N8X. Simple and easy. And much nicer than the standard IDE ribbons or cables.

Yeah, I really think it's just a matter of Mfg modifying current drives to work as Serial and adding what will be the standard connectors for the future but leaving as much legacy comatability as they can since it's already designed with it. Can't agree with you that they are any better looking or easier to use etc as they STILL have to get their power from an old legacy plug. The SATA1 plug yes, but the SATA power plug no. Hey, when the Mfg. wants our opinion on this stuff they will GIVE it to us :-lol
