Omega ATI 4.1 Drivers, anyone tried them?

Featured Replies

I installed these drivers tonignt (latest ones from Omega). I have noted much better clarity in FS2004, the reolution and detail appears to be much better than the prior 3.1's. However, this brings a performance penalty, especially with AI traffic. KLAX really hits it bad (with Ultimate Traffic).Any other comments on these drivers?Thanks,Bruce.WinXPATI-9800 ProFS2004P4-2.61G PC-2100

I installed them last weekend as soon as they hit the net. Run great here. Smoother than the previous Omega's (and they were smooth on my system), and maybe a bit more speed. Like many, I also notice brighter colors and sharper scenes. In the Omega tweak panel, under D3D settings, I'm running 4X AA and 16X AF, Performance mode, Texture Preference= High Quality, MipMap Detail Level= High Quality, Wait for V Sync= Application Preference, and Truform= Off.AMD 3000+ Barton 400Mhz at PR3400ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 2.0, 1006 Bios1Gb Corsair XMS PC3200C2 2,3,3,11ATI Radeon 9700 Pro @ 350/330Sony E400 19" CRTWD 37Gb Raptor, FS on it's own partiton (with page file)WinXp Home SP1and all the other normal stuff to make it work.

While I haven't flown an actual flight yet, I did slew around a bit, and notice a marked increase in performance, and I would say a significant increase in the visuals. Glad I stopped by here - this was apparently a very good choice to load these. Thanks for the heads-up.Glenn

Both Glen and Greg,What process did you use to un-install the old drivers?I have followed a rather "esoteric" method in the past of search registry entries and .inf files, plus any references to "ATI". The first time or two I scored lots of files to delete, however since using the Omega drivers have never found anything left from the Control Panel Add/Delete applet, so this last time I just used that applet and the installed the new drivers. I believe that the Omefa version of the ATI drivers does a nice un-install from the Control Panel applet without having to worry too much about searching for driver remnants of a prior version.Thanks,Bruce.

"I believe that the Omefa version of the ATI drivers does a nice un-install from the Control Panel applet without having to worry too much about searching for driver remnants of a prior version."That's been my experience, too. One of the reasons why I use the Omega's. One thing I always do after changing video and/or sound drivers is reinstall DirectX. I've been using the Omega ATI drivers since 3.7... nothing else (except for the Dells that got rid of the screen flickering last fall).I haven't used driverCleaner since I changed over from nVidia last May. I just over write the preceeding Omega's with the latest.

I had old Omega drivers in, so I didn't uninstall anything. I just installed the new ones over the old. However, if you had ATI drivers, you'd have to uninstall them (or at least the CP) first. I think when I switched from the ATI to the Omega drivers way back when, I just used the ATI Uninstall feature (including the CP), but it's hard to remember back that far.Glenn
