February 23, 200422 yr I'm thinking of installing a new sound card into my home-built P4 2.66G / Windows XP SP1 machine. My video card is an ATI 9800 Pro 128M. Any ideas on which sound card is recommended is much appriated. My current sound is from an on-board imbedded chip (AC '97).Thanks for any help,Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
February 23, 200422 yr I use a Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Platinum card. It's 16-bit with Dolby 5.1 sound if you have a S/PDIF cable (if you can find one). They're older so they're fairly cheap while still delivering great sound. As for higher end, Guru3d.com gave an excellent review to the AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1 which is a 24-bit card. A bit pricy but worth a look. You can see the review here http://www.guru3d.com/article/sound/105/
