Top end chip in a A7N8X Deluxe?

Featured Replies

What's the "best" chip I could get to go with this motherboard.Just looking through the ASUSTeK manual and it states chips from 2800+.Mine system came with a XP2700+, so does this mean it'll happily take Barton cored processors - albeit with a BIOS update?I'm curious as I recently saw a new version of the A7N8X advertised, and wondered whether my motherboard was pretty much near it's potential for upgrades (in terms of CPU anyway).

Hi Chris,it will take all Socket A CPUs, so you can use anything up to the XP3200+, but not the new 64-bit CPUs. However, if you have version 1 of the board, its FSB will only go up to 333MHz by default, but that can be increased with a BIOS update. With version 2 (which came out about a year ago) there are no problems at all.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

Thanks very much. This will be a v1. It harks back to December 2002 (at the lastest).
