March 23, 200422 yr Hello,After asking loads of people, I still cannot fix this flaw I get in fs9 with the graphics.I have a radeon 9800 pro, I have never touched the overclocking frequencies or anything. This glitch happens when I press ALT to bring up the menu inside full screen mode. It goes away when I close the menu. Also, after pressing ALT the mouse turns into an egg timer and I have to wait around 10 seconds before the menu appears.I am on the 3.9 Omega drivers, I still have this problem with every other driver.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/68343.jpgRegards,Alexander Martin.
March 23, 200422 yr Need updated chipset drivers for the mobo, or install DirectX9.0b. I would guess you still have 9.0a installed as that looks very like a problem picked up in beta testing. Now, what's the bet?Allcott
March 23, 200422 yr I got DX 9.0b installed.Latest Nforce 2 drivers installed.Need I say more :( LOL (kidding)I told you no one could help me...:)Regards,Alexander Martin.
March 23, 200422 yr Looks like the card may be not good, but if you have tried everything else, may be the hardware, but if you wanted to try, do a full format and start out fresh and see if it happens.
March 25, 200422 yr Alexander,I have the very same thing with the latest drivers and DX versions, good temps etc..Why stick with FS02 ?Why worry about it ? Like you say, it only happens when you freeze the screen for the menu and goes away when you get out... just like mine.I ignore it and it ignores ME :-) Everything else works just fine and not worth the trouble to even figure it out IMHO anyway..I'm sure it's just a setting here or there, in or out of FS9 but :~P not willing to lose quality and speed of it in use to stop it.
March 26, 200422 yr Hi,I'm with you Tom. I get the same thing when I press ALT to bring up the menu(a lot of the time, but not every time), but I just ingnore it! As the screen is returned to full and complete normality when I press ALT again to leave the menu bar.Alexander,Are you trying to say that your screen stays that way when you press ALT again and leave the menu bar? If that is not what you are trying to say then the only difference between you and me is that when I get an hourglass I only have to wait about 2 seconds before the menu bar appears.Regards,Jim3.06 GHz Intel P4 on Asus P4T533-C(533 MHz FSB), 1 GB PC1066 Samsung RDRAM, NEC MultiSync FE2111SB 22" Monitor, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Videocard w/ v4.2 Catalyst Drivers, DirectX 9.0b, Creative Audigy2 Soundcard, 120 GB w/8 MB Cache Western Digital HD
March 26, 200422 yr Hello,Despite the issue not being solved. I am glad that I am not the only one with this problem..It is a slight annoyance, but I will do as you said, and transfer over to fs2004 tonight (with simple clouds though) :(.AMD Barton 28001Gb PC3200 DDR400 RAMATI Radeon 9800 ProRegards,Alexander Martin.
March 26, 200422 yr Sorry, I missed the part about the 10 second delay... I don't get that part. Just the graphic anomaly out the windscreen. Is your HD and Windows set to read as fast as it can ? Does it also delay if you just LOOK at the menu without making changes that have to be written ?Do you have delays in other areas that require HD ? Is your FS9 boot up slow ? Windows boot up ? Other software ?
March 26, 200422 yr Hello,Well I press ALT and now since updating my Nforce 2 drivers the delay is around 3 seconds, but it is still annoying. When the menu finally "arrives", I can do what I like with no problem whatsoever. When I close it, once again, 3 second delay and we are back to flying. No other programs are running slow and I have a separate hard drive just to run FS. a Maxtor 40Gb.Regards,Alexander Martin.
March 26, 200422 yr I'm not talking about any programs that RUN slow..Trying to find out if your HD and Windows settings is giving you the fastest speed needed to avoid any delays in data transfer at the times you need them.3 seconds is not long to wait 8-) But you might want to test the speed of your HD to make sure you are getting full speed transfers.Or better still, do a full system test to make sure everything is moving data as fast as it is designed to. Could be a ram or cache thing.Does your HD have a buffer ?You don't have a lot of other things running in the background do you ?Have you defraged your HD lately ?
March 26, 200422 yr I defrag regular, as for hard drive buffer, I can only guess and say yes. I haven't had it long so expect it has one.Maybe you could tell me how to tweak this hard drive so it can be specifically used for FS.BTW I got my second monitor working, but think I need to buy Wide Fs to be able to drag i.e FMC, overhead panel etc onto the second monitor.Regards,Alexander Martin.
March 26, 200422 yr Well, your leaving a lot of blank areas by skipping some of the points, so it might not be easy to pin anything down real quickly :-)Disable file indexing if you have it enabledGot "fast search" enabled in the program attributes ?Got DMA enabled ?I think a 40gb Maxtor has 2mb cache built in.Several little things so far could add up to a 3 second difference between us. I run a Serial ATA HD with 8 mb cache, that alone could be worth the 3 seconds. But you really have to test everything to see if there is a bottle neck anywhere in your setup.Or, just enjoy FS9 and look away for 3 seconds while it gets done :-)I also see at the moment,Avsim front page has a article and link to a site that has full setting suggestions to get the most out of FS9 and your system.
April 2, 200422 yr Hi... I have no idea whatsoever how to fix your issue... however, I noticed your comment on dragging panels to a second monitor... you dont need WideFS to do that... I dont know if you know this already, but you have to undock the particular window/panel you want to move to the second screen... right click on the panel in particular, and click undock, then you can freely move it to the other screen. Hope that helps.Todd
