AMD Issues

Featured Replies

Ok, I just helped a friend build a new system, and he bought an AMD Athlong XP 2400+, so when we first turned it on, only showed up as an 1800+, we just said, we'll worry about it later, so got XP up and running, and all up to date, but Windows, and the Bios detect the prcessor as an 1800+, anyone have any ideas why? His MOBO is a Soyo SY-K7VMP2

Is the correct FSB speed set in the BIOS? The XP 2400 should be running at 2GHz with an FSB speed of 266MHz (2 x 133MHz). So the multiplier should be either 15 (133MHz x 15 = 2GHz), or 7.5 (266MHz x 7.5 = 2GHz), depending on your BIOS. If your FSB speed is set to 200MHz (2 x 100MHz), you'll get a clock speed of 1.5GHz, which sounds about right for an XP1800.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

Well the problem is in the Bios, we see can see FSB speed, but its not changable, its grayed out, and I couldn't find anywhere where to enable like advanced control's or something. the FSB speed is showing up at 100MHZ, and we need to get 133, but its not letting us change it, does it have to be changed on the actual board?

It's very unlikely that you'd have to change anything on the actual board. My guess is that there's somewhere an option that's set to auto-detect hardware, or it synchronises the CPU FSB to the RAM. I'm not familiar with your BIOS, but have a look at all the settings, and see, if changing one of them from 'auto' to 'manual' 'ungreys' the FSB speed field.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

Well it was something on the board, after looking very carefully at the Soyo site, we discovered how to change the FSB, jumpers on the actualy Board, changed them to 133, and now he's running at 2 GHZ instead of 1.5.
