April 28, 200422 yr Hi all,Wanting to upgrade my pc to improve my FS9 and PMDG737NG experience. I'm not that hot on system perfomance and so need the help of you experts. Here's what I got:MSI 6380 Motherboard (AGP 4x)AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (Max for mobo)768Mb RAMNVIDIA GeForce2 MX (AGP)17" CRTIn the next few weeks a mate is giving me another 17" CRT so I want to run two screens. I'll use one screen as main view and the second for Squawkbox, ACARS, etc.Now I've read around this is best done through a second graphics card. At the moment my AGP graphics card is pretty rubbish. So here's my questions:1) Do I buy a topend PCI graphics card and run this as my primary display with my current AGP as secondary? (or can you only get the best graphics via the AGP slot?)2) Do I ditch the current AGP card and buy a topend AGP card for the primary and also buy a cheaper PCI card for the secondary display.3) Anything else in my setup going to hinder the dual screen setup? Thanks reading this, and thanks in advance for your advice,Phil.
April 28, 200422 yr A third option is to buy an AGP card that has dual/triple head outputs. Visit www.pricewatch.com for price comparisons. Visit http://www.matrox.com/ for triple head output specs.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
April 28, 200422 yr Buy AGP. The AGP port was designed specifically for graphics. It transfers graphic information at a much higher rate than PCI.If your going to buy a card, wait until the nVidia Geforce 6800 comes out. It will drive the prices of the FX series down. ATI is also releasing a new series so look for that too.
April 29, 200422 yr Thanks for the advice. One further question if I may:With my mobo only supporting up to 4x AGP will I still get the best out of a top end NVIDIA card? Thanks,Phil.
April 29, 200422 yr >With my mobo only supporting up to 4x AGP will I still get the>best out of a top end NVIDIA card? Not perfect, but mostly. You can also reduce the TYPE of card and spend more Money for another Motherboard with 8x AGP. But the better ides is, to spend the Money for a top end NVIDIA card. Why ? Most of the Texturedata is not only transfered from RAM by AGP to your NVIDIA card, it also must be transfered from your Harddisk via RAM via AGP to your Grapiccard. And HD-Acces is very slow. So your HD ist a massive Factor. Buy a quick one with 8 or MORE MB Cache-RAM, if you can.
