July 31, 200421 yr Just curious if anyone else builds them as a part time job or anything similar. :)
August 1, 200421 yr I do, but not as a job per say.Sometimes a neighbor or family friend will call up needing tech help w/ their system & they sometimes pay but in most cases I don't ask for it.I've also built several systems for people in which I consult w/ them & design a system around their needs & budget. We then go out shopping for the components & I put the system togther & perform initial stability testing.Ofcourse I also build my own personal systems :)
August 1, 200421 yr I do it in my spare time too. So you actually go to a store and shop around? I usually take care of the config myself, ordering from NCIX, where I'm a Premier Partner. Of course I ask what they want and what their budget and PC uses are.Stability testing, do you just loop Prime95 for 6 hours or something like that?
August 2, 200421 yr Yeah I always go to the point of purchace. Sometimes you luck out on daily deals & such.As for stability, Yeah I usually run Prime for a bit & just check the system out overall. Get all the drivers installed along w/ any programs the client may want on the system.
August 10, 200421 yr >Just curious if anyone else builds them as a part time job or>anything similar. :)I've built 11,never tried to do it as a full time gig though. Most all parts are bought through New Egg,retail stores like CompUSA and others are too high priced. When I first start a new one up I monitor temps carefully for an hour or so. When I see that all is well I run it for 4-5 hours straight.I also run a check program that tests the memory modules for a few hours. Whether you run that program for 20 minutes or twenty hours the memory has to have zero errors.David
August 11, 200421 yr I build my own and for friends.I also sell 'em for a living :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
August 23, 200421 yr I know...I am slow, I have not been to this forum in some time. I build PC's for individuals and business's, set up networks, consult and set up security for PC's and networks, design web pages and just about anything else. I just officially started my company a few months ago and I already have so much business that I am going to have to start hiring people.
