Currently running a Gigabyte MOBO with KT400 Via chipset.... To the experts out there will I be happy with increase in performance going to the following.... Good performance now but looking for smoother/better FPS operation in high traffic areas ... Running at 1600X1200. December 15, 200421 yr Looks good except the RAM, it's slow and the Athlon64's like fast RAM. I just ordered a new system yesterday, very similar to your new one, I can't wait for it, after 5 years with this sucker, it will be nice to have a new one.
December 15, 200421 yr Good choice on the chip(939) and motherboard(Abit), I do suggest faster RAM though...Btw...make sure your 939 processor has a Winchester Core (Runs cooler).
December 15, 200421 yr Athlon64s need at least PC3200 ram (at 400mhz) to run at full speed. This is because the FSB runs at 800 or 1600mhz at a 2x or 4x multiplier.
December 15, 200421 yr Correct, well sorta, the socket 754 Athlon64's have a FSB of 1.6GHZ, while the socket 939 have 2GHZ FSB.
