May 15, 200521 yr Hi there. When I boot up the pc skips the BIOS and all that initial screen and remains black for a brief period. THen the screen shows the Win XP log in as normal. If I try to hit the delete key to gain access to the BIOS the screen remains black and the light of the monitor remains orange instead of green. So I assumed that no signal at all was being sent to the monitor. Thing is, after pressing the delete key the pc stops and nothing happens. Then I remember that to exit BIOS I must press F10 (Save and exit or save without exit) and the pc then returns to a normal boot up. So I must conclude that the screen was in BIOS but I could not see anything due to the monitor not showing anything at all.Other thing that is bothering me is the fact that any game that uses my Gforce mmx400 (Direct 3D ON) hangs the system and I have to reboot again. After powering down and waiting for about 30s or so I hit the power button and the PC fails to power up. It sounds just like when you try to turn on a car without gas. It keeps that "clank clank clank" sound of the ignition in this case, the sound of the pc trying to power up without energy. I thought some component burnt down but after waiting for 5 to 10 minutes I power up and the same process happens...Skips the BIOS and welcome screen and the screens light up only when at the Win XP Logo and then I see myself at my desktop. If I fly for 3 minutes in FS2004 my pc freezes and again will have to wait for 10 minutes to reboot.I suspected at first some of my HD were overheating but after checking their cooling fans and being able to work in Windows I discarded it.Later I updated my video drivers, Nvidia stuff etc. but I my FS2004 and some other games still freezes the system for no apparent reason. I also did a complete BIOS update with ASUS Update software and nothing improved. I don't know if replacing the CMOS battery might even help. Please help....yugoAMD 2200XP+WinXPGFOrce mmx 400 64mb
May 15, 200521 yr First thing to try is clearing the CMOS. Your motherboard manual should have instructions on how to do this (usually requires pulling the CMOS battery and then setting a jumper to dump the BIOS and reset it to factory settings). If that doesn't work then you can try WinFlash, which allows you to flash the BIOS from Windows. If you use WinFlash I suggest you use the BIOS clearing routine above before flashing in Windows.Good luck,Greg
