Three screens and peripheral vision

Featured Replies

I've always found FS makes my jaw drop with every new release but there are some fundamental issues that will never be resolved with software alone. Number one for me is peripheral vision. Having to change views when turning finals or taxying is a real drawback and precludes really accurate flying. So I'm toying with going mad and buying two further 17" flat panels to augment my existing one because I gather that it is possible to show three views simultaneously which would be great. I also want to move to a faster processor and graphics card than my current Radeon 9800 Pro.I seem to recall that there is a triple header Matrox graphics card out there but I suspect that it is now getting dated. So I'm wondering if more modern triple headers have become available and if so from where? Failing this can I achieve the same effect with a double header and a single, or even three singles. In this case can a motherboard with three slots be found? I've no doubt that there are software nightmares beyond this but I'll leave that for another time.Any information gratefully received.Ian

Hi Ian, I don't know much about such configs and have only briefly tried to stretch views over multiple monitors (using Geforces). AFAIK, the Parhelia still represents the 'best' solution for triple monitoring. I say this because there isn't much information concerning the use of 2 PCI-e cards yet and the only info I saw regarding this option wasn't too overwhelming. Perhaps check cockpit builder forums for more information? Personally, I'm looking into getting a wide-screen projector to add to immersion. Hope this adds to thoughts a bit, good luck and kind regards Jaap

I have to admit that this is the only reason I have not yet turned to a multi-monitor system. I have been scouring forums and texh reviews everywhere. All multi-monitors do is stretch your current view, so even in the VC your cockpit will look very odd. At this time, as far as I can tell, there is no way to extend peripheral vision.I am in the same boat -- I am a VC flyer, but it still gets annoying to have to mouse-pan around to look out windows and such when as a student pilot in RL I am supposed to be practicing effective use of peripheral vision. If there was a way to extend your VC view to wrap around a bit more I'd sure love to know about it.

Hi Christopher-You got it RIGHT!! I'm running triple views LFwd,Fwd,RFwd on triple monitors, giving me a total horizon/view of 195

Absolutely SWEET! And I got your email with the attached images. Awesome looking setup. is there a tech page somewhere that explains in detail what I have to do and the settings to use t make this happen? I have monitors sitting all over my house and if i have the stuff already I'll do this tonight!!! And this sunds like the answer to the original poster's query too :-)Right now I have 2 geForce 9800 GT's installed, though I cannot use both at the same time (this requires SLI, which wreaks havoc on FS. The second card only comes into play for my games which support SLI). Unless I am wrong there too? IS there a way to utilize both cards without SLI? If so then I can have up to 4 monitors right now just off my cards alone (2 VGA and 2 DVI).Sorry about allthe typos. This topic has me too excited to do my grammer checking.
