No AGP ATI 9800SE??

Featured Replies

I just installed my new Radeon 9800SE. Installed the drivers from the CD and ran FS2004. Frame rates around 30 or more. Everything seemed to function ok. Did not make any changes to BIOS. Went to ATI site and downloaded latest drivers CATALYST 5-5. Installed after uninstalling previous old drivers. FS2004 now running in high teens FPS. Checked with DXDIAG and it says that AGP is not available. I tried various AGP aperatures and 4x/8x speeds. No help. The previous Nvidia card (GeForce 2 400MX) always worked ok and DXdiag always showed AGP available. Returned to CD drivers after unstalling new drivers but same thig AGP not available??? Is there a recommended Driver Cleaner that might help??Dick Boley @KLBE

Took a chance and removed all of the ATI "stuff" from the System32 folder. Reinstalled the old drivers from the CD and back in business. Probably proceedure and remembering to be in safe mode when removing driver elements so the removal is not blocked by the dll being in use.Dick Boley @KLBE

Hi Dick,Glad to see you got it squared away. For future reference whenever you see in dxdiag that you have no AGP available it means you need to reinstall your motherboard chipset drivers. If you went from the nVidia card you mentioned to the ATI card did you use DriverCleaner to rid your system of nVidia registry entries? Simply using Windows' Add/Remove function isn't enough. DriverCleaner is easy to use and thorough. Follow the Readme and it will serve you well.Greg
