June 7, 200520 yr I have a P4 2.66GHz CPU, in an ABit BD 7II motherboard,, and running 1GB of PC2100 DDR memory. Video card is a Radeon 9800 (128). I don't over-clock.Without a major change to hardware (which I assume a new motherboard is), is it possible to upgrade just the memory to get a better performance? This old system which I bult is now 3 years old (hard to believe), still performs OK but I'm wondering about low cost options for increasing performance. At POST I see 2666 / 133, being I assume CPU speed and FSB.Thanks for any suggestions, running XP Home.Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
June 7, 200520 yr Hi Bruce,I doubt that changing memory will do much for you. Your memory is running at the same speed as the FSB, so even if you went to a faster memory (say, PC3200 designed to run at 200Mhz) it will only default back to the system bus speed. Be a waste of money.Given that your system is well balanced perhaps the best perfromance ehancement for you is FS-GS.Cheers,Greg
