64 bit XP Pro

Featured Replies

Hey guys, need some input. Building a new rig, FX-55, 850XT, 2 gig 3200 (3DSMax work), etc. this is my first PCIe setup and while I know there are hardly any, if any games that are coded for 64 bit, I still want to get it now rather than later (good deal). Any experiences with it yet, any probs with everyday software, etc.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

Hi Michael, if you stick with 'non-exotic' components, you shouldn't see too much or any incompatibilities. Only TV cards, a couple of printers (i.e. Canon) and a variety of scanners aren't supported yet. On the AntiVir side of life, I've found Avast to do a good job (gentle on resources). Spybot and Ad-aware also work fine. AV etc is still a bit of a problem sometimes. On the burning side of life, I don't know whether Roxio's Easy CD Creator works yet, but Nero does flawlessly. Only very few games don't work with XP64. A couple, i.e. FarCry, even offer 64-bit upgrades. Hardwarewise, I would suggest to get two 1GB modules. Perhaps check the mainboard or RAM manufacturer's homepage regarding compatibility? Hope this is the kind of infos you're looking for, good luck and kind regards Jaap
