October 9, 200520 yr Hello to all flight simmers. I recently ordered a new computer from Hypersonic PC (see sig). I would like to get some feedback from those running like configured systems or components. I have been out of the flight simulator world for about 5 months now. I left Delta Air Lines in Atlanta and took a position with Fedex in Memphis. As soon as I receive my machine and get the system unification from Michael you will see me back in here in full throttle. I spec-ed it out in SLI so I can use it with Lock On. Seems like I should of waited for the 512MB video cards to be released but I want to get back in the air. ;) I have to purchase a video display and I cannot seem to decide between the Samsung 214T (8ms resp time) or the Viewsonic G220FB 21 CRT. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
October 10, 200520 yr Hi,Just one comment: ;)On your CRT vs. LCD question, you may want to take a look at this thread:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...11382&mode=fullHope this helps.Edwin
October 11, 200520 yr Author Edwin,Thanks for the reply. I've read the thread you suggested and did some research on the Samsung 214T and found out that even though it has a 8ms response time (g to g) it can only go 1600x1200@60hz. NEC also has a 8ms 21 inch LCD with the same specs. What kind of LCD are you running?I ordered the Viewsonic G220FB 21 CRT. I've read good reviews on that monitor at newegg. They also recommended the Samsung 1100.Thanks again,Jerel
October 11, 200520 yr Hi Jerel,I'm using a ViewSonic VP201b. 20.1", very thin black bezel, no visible ghosting. Obviously, 21" would be better but I'm happy with 20.1" for now. I was skeptical about LCDs at first but now that I'm using one, I can't see myself switching back to CRT (although I have to use one at work! doh!)Edwin
October 11, 200520 yr 1600x1200 @ 60Hz is quite beautiful.60Hz on a LCD isn't the same as on a CRT. It's a heck of alot better.Infact I don't know of any LCD's with a higher refresh rate.BTW the Samsung 213T can run with a refresh rate of 75Hz, but there's no difference when doing so, so I keep mine @ 60.If you want a higer screen resolution then you need to go for a bigger screen (23"+). Just remember that running anything @ a lower resolution than the reccomended for that screen will result in a softer image.Again, LCD's arn't like CRT's.Cheers.
