I want to upgrade to a 256MB 7800 GTX SLI. I noticed that if I underclock my video card to 6800 GT speeds I get about 15% drop in performance at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF so I'm thinking that at 1600x1200 with 4x AA and 8x AF going to a faster video card would help in this situation. Underclocking my cpu didn't decrease my performance as much as underclocking my video card with these video settings. I do more than just play FS2004 on my PC. I play FPS and Racing games as well. Even if FS2004 doesn't support SLI the 7800 GTX is faster than what I have with a single card and would like to know how much better with a single 7800 GTX will run at these video settings.

I upgraded my video card recently from a 6800GT to a 7800GTX and saw no increases with any games. The games I mostly play are FS9, GTR and Battlefield 2. It seems most games I play are dependent on the CPU and not the video card. Peronally, I think the video card hype is overrated. Investing in a faster CPU will yield a better bang for the buck. I wish I had saved my money. Rob

What res do you play those games at and do you use AA and AF? The 6800GT is almost as fast as a 7800GTX when running at 1024x768 in many games. Do you use vsync? It's hard for me to see the difference between 45 fps and 85 fps when vsync is disabled because the motion is a little jerky but if I have vsync enabled I can tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps even without a frame rate counter. You might be able to stay at 60 fps longer with the 7800GTX than with the 6800GT assuming that use have the refresh rate at 60Hz.

I do use AA & AF. However, I have Vsync disabled. I will try it enabled tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the tip. Since getting a Dell 24" LCD widescreen last month, Ive been running at 1920 *1200 (native res) as long as the game will run at this setting. Battlefield 2 will not unfortunatly, but FS9 and most other games Ive tried will. Before last month, I had a 19" LCD running at 1280 *1024. Although the Dell monitor blows amay my old one for refreash rate and picture quality, I havn't noticed any decrease in FPS while running at this higher a res setting. When I got the 7800, I noticed no increase in FPS with any of my games. I know FS9 won't run faster, but I though at least some of the other games would, They did not. MAybe it would have been a more impressive upgrade if I had gone from a much older video card. I over clocked my CPU a little and saw a small increase there. I have a P4 3.8. I would like to go to an AMD setup, but am going to wait a little longer until since my system is running everything way faster than Ill need for some time. I dont want to haave to swap out all my memory etc.. SLI is too over the top for me. Ill wait and see if FS10 will support it. If so, Ill go that route, but for now, Ill stay with a single card.P.S. Sorry for the long postRob
