WinXP: Error 1607-Unable to install Installshield scripting runtime

Featured Replies

I've been attempting to download from the internet some trial versions of backup software aplications, but appear to be getting the above error in all cases as the install shield is invoked. The MS article is here:http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.a...ticleid=Q107094I don't follow most of it- however I have checked in Control Panel/User Profiles that I am logged in as "Administrator", and that the folder C:WindowsInstaller is not set to read-only.This is a brand new (almost) install of XP Home (SP2). Anyone seen this before that can add any info? I don't know if this type of error is unique to installing system apps such as backup software, or if this will be a problem with installing anything else onto my system. So far all I have installed is NVidia Firewall and Chipset Drivers, FS9, XP SP2, MS Office Partition Magic and a few other apps that I have installed into prior versions of XP without any issues.I have also tried running the installers in Safe Mode but the same error appears. Thanks for any answers to this.Bruce.

Hi Bruce,Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I've never encountered such an error before so I can't quite help but I've noticed all sorts of problems with the NVIDIA firewall. Specifically, whenever I download any type of file (e.g. .EXE file or .zip file), I get CRC errors. Turning off the NVIDIA firewall and then redownloading the file, I get no such error. I've completely uninstalled the NVIDIA firewall now. Maybe try that? (I know, doesn't seem related but hey, you never know.)Funny how I get problems with the NVIDIA firewall and yet, haven't had a single problem with the IDE drivers.Hope this helps.Edwin

Thanks Edwin- I did note after I posted this that the XP error is not always the same- in fact is different for varying software packages that I downloaded last night, although all appeared to have an "issue" with running an installer script ( so the common thread was administrator rights, which I appear to be good with).I'm going to try disabling the NV firewall and see what happens when I re-download the applications. This is the first ASUS/NV/AMD combo setup that I have had, and so have never installed an NV firewall before- but it is one of the unique and new things in the system to me, which may go along with this unique and new error :)Thanks again Edwin, the knowledge base here in this forum is great, and the support a lot better than even most vendors offer !!Bruce.
