August 22, 200619 yr I just moved my wife's computer for a temporary week or so from its normal location where it is hooked up to our home network by cable. I installed a wireless network adapter in an adjacent room to her modem and router. IT DOES WORK some of the time, but connection to the internet is intermittent with these provisions. I believe the problem is as follows as I get the following error message after installation of the adapter:"The unknown USB device will function at reduced speed. You must add a hi-speed USB host controller to this computer to maximum performance."I had the exact same problem after a reinstallation of WINXP on my computer with a laser printer. It would not work at all until I got the enhanced controller working. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me remember what I did to get installation and recognition of the enhanced controller established. Both computers are running the MSXP OS and have Service Package 2 and all other updates installed. If I go to windows help, it repeatedly tells me I need SP2 for these provisions (which is already installed)I have found links with a google search that list a download for the file, but they do not download, give alternate mirrors, and when the alternates are chosen it simply moves me to Windows updates (which tell me everything is up to date (And the SP2 package is listed as being downloaded and installed).I have tried removing the standard USB provisons from device manager and letting it reload, but enhancement never is added.Anybody remember the secret to establishment of these provisions? Thanks:RTH
