August 22, 200619 yr I'm fortunate to try FS2004 in 2 different setups. One of them. AMD X2 4400 Dual Core CPU 2gig Ram 30" Apple Cinema Display GeForce 7800 GTX 512 Second system is AMD X2 4400 Dual Core CPU 2gig Ram 30" Apple Cinema Display ATI X1900XTX 512 As you can see both systems are similar except videocards. I noticed second system's (X1900XTX) performance on FS2004 is better then Nvidia one. More smoother. But ofcourse both cars are strong enough to run FS2004.
August 22, 200619 yr What resolutions did you test on both systems?. To me the ATI's seem to have been more powerhungry, louder and hotter.that said the ATI vs. Nvidia will be a battle to stay amongst a really excited user alike
August 23, 200619 yr Both cards are not similar. The Geforce 7900 is meant to compete with the X1900XTX. The 7800 competes with the X1800 and vanilla X1900
August 26, 200619 yr Well, I've had problems with the NVIDIA drivers, and for that reason, would go with ATI.
August 28, 200619 yr >Well, I've had problems with the NVIDIA drivers, and for that>reason, would go with ATI.Which is odd because nVidia has far superior driver support than ATI does. Even the hardcore ATI a really excited user will agree with that one. ATI releases updates infrequently. I've so far owned four nVidia cards and three ATI cards. Two of the ATI cards I've owned, I had problems with so I don't use them. According to my geek cyber buddies at Guru3d, nVidia and ATI's current high end cards are neck and neck in terms of image quality and performance. Where you go from there is all up to price and/or brand preference.
August 28, 200619 yr HI, you say:"Which is odd because nVidia has far superior driver support than ATI does. Even the hardcore ATI a really excited user will agree with that one. ATI releases updates infrequently."As "infrequently" as once a month (every month, since some years ago).Regards.Miquel Egea.
August 30, 200619 yr well I was advised the reason for my blurries are because I own an ATI card and not nvidia and there is nothing I can do about it!?So I would sway towards NVIDIA now after finding this out!IanAMD 64 X3800 x2 Dual CoreX1600XT 256MB ATI RADEON1GB DDRII 667MHZWIN XP PRO SP2
August 30, 200619 yr well I was advised the reason for my blurries are because I own an ATI card and not nvidia and there is nothing I can do about it!?That must have come straight from an nVidia fanboi, then. Either card will do a bad job of dealing with the blurries if the system and sim are not configured properly. And as Miguel stated, ATI driver support is as infrequent as every month.ATI and nVidia both make nice products. Either will do a credible job of rendering FS9 (given that it uses DirectX 7 API for video).Greg
August 31, 200619 yr I see, well I sure wish i knew how to configure my system properly! Ive been through so many settings in the cfg, I even went and bought a SATA II hard drive just for fs today to see if that would help, it works amazing, until I fly jets, then the blurs are rediclious!
August 31, 200619 yr >> ...I even went and bought a SATA II hard drive just for fs today to see if that would help, it works amazing, until I fly jets, then the blurs are rediclious!<< If slow flights show no blurries and fast flights do, I'ld guess the system isn't able to keep up. Have you read this? http://www.steve-lacey.com/blogarchives/20..._blurries.shtmlGood luck and kind regards Jaap
September 1, 200619 yr arghh yeah ive read that, just done a test flight with the ATR from flight1...I have UT europe installed along with active sky 6 (with 3d clouds on 50% and DXT textures 64x64 being used) and ge pro....its all fine when first taking off, but after about ten mins the blurries and stutters come back!!!!Do I have my fs settings to high? cant this system cope with fs9?Hmmmmmm]Ian
