December 1, 200619 yr Is it possible to have the 7800 gtx and 8800 gtx plugged into the same board (not running in sli of course) and use the 8800 for the main monitor and the 7800 to run monitor # 2 and 3?
December 2, 200619 yr Hi Jack, I don't see why that would be a prob. The only thing I could imagine are driver issues because the 8800 is so new - aka finding the right/updated drivers might take a while? HST & FWIW, I recently read an article that the 8800 is not fully DX10 compliant and doesn't fulfil all of MS' DX10 hardware expectations. The reason - paraphrased and shortened: On the 8800, the GPU multitasking distribution is still done 'in software'. MS would like to see hardware distributing GPU-tasks. Therefore the 8800 will/should require more CPU-cycles than a fully DX10 compliant GPU once available. One of the most important DX10 aims is to lessen CPU-cycles. Conclusion (maybe?): Case you're looking for a fully compliant DX10 card, perhaps wait? If you're looking for raw-power, the 8800s look extremely solid. :-) The 8800 apparently also eliminates a quirk (rendering non-horizontal/non-45
December 11, 200619 yr Good question. When I upgrade to DX10 I want to still use my old 7800GT to drive a second monitor.
