February 6, 200719 yr Hi,I've never been one to flirt with overclocking, but I do use various benchmarking tools routinely to test for system stability. After recently upgrading my CPU and GPU I benchmarked my system with 3DMark06 (Registered Advanced Version). The results were as expected when compared with my previous setup and I felt quite happy until, that is, I submitted my results for comparison at the Futuremark Site :(When comparing my results with 14 similar setups (including drivers) my 3DMark06 score (approx 5000) fell around the middle of the bunch. What I can't understand is the discrepancy between my score and the highest performing amongst the 14 other comparable systems posted at the site which is an impressive >7000 3DMarks (!?)How can this be? Apparently neither CPU nor GPU was overclocked on the highest scoring system and yet, apart from our MoBos, the hardware spec was very similar to mine. How is this achieved without overclocking?MikeASRock 939Dual-SATA2, AMD Athlon 64X2 4800+ (2400MHz)(Toledo), 2GB Crucial PC3200 DDR400 Ram 3-3-3-8 (2T)(Dual Channel), (PCI-E)Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB (Catalyst 7.1 WHQL), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" TFT LCD 20ms Digital Monitor (1280x1024x32), SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum (Drivers version 5.12.0001.1196 WHQL), WD Caviar SE16 250GB (WD2500KS) SATAII + Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 ATA133 UDMA-6 (320 GB), ASUS DRW-1608P2S Optical Drive, Antec P150 case with NeoHE 430W PSU, CH Products USB Yoke, Pedals and Fighterstick, Plantronics Headset and Mike combo, TrackIR Pro ver. 4.1 (build 29), Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse, Windows XP Home Edition (SP2), DirectX 9.0c
February 12, 200719 yr Author Well, I posted over at the Futuremark forums and it appears that Futuremark have no way of detecting/recording whether or not your system has been overclocked! It does make one wonder why we bother to submit and compare our results unless all we are interested in is achieving the highest score possible by whatever means available.I suppose the fact that my score lies somewhere in the middle of those results achieved by my system peers is confirmation enough that my stock system is performing okay :)Anyway, thought those of you who might be interested would like to know the outcome.Mike
