March 23, 200719 yr I am not sure whether now is the right time for me to move over to a Windows Vista O/S from XP home. Granted, XP is old, slow and not without its problems, but I understand Vista, particularly the 64bit version currently has issues of its own.Ideally, I would like to hear from anyone running either FSX or FS9 (as I run both at home with WinXP) on a Vista O/S.Does it offer anything extra in terms of playability, quality etc? How about 64bit driver compatibility? What are the advantages and disadvantages of Vista over XP in FSX/FS9?I welcome your opinions.Scratch1964Conroe E6700 @ stock 2.67GHzAsus P5W DH DeluxeCorsair XMS2 2GB DDR PC6400Palit GeForce 8800GTS 640MBO/S Drive C: Seagate Barracuda 320GB/16MB cache/7200RPMSoftware Drive X: 2x Seagate 320GB/16MB cache/7200PRM RAID 0LG 16x DVDRW + DVD RAMThermaltake Soprano case = 4 x 120mm fansEZ-cool 550W PSuWinXP SP2FS2004 v9.1FSXNEC Multisync 15.1" 1024x768*22" or 24" LCD soon to be added*
March 25, 200719 yr currently l`m using windows vista, as an op system its great but l having some graphic issues as the moment. l have the same card as you but using a BFG. dont be scared to use vista maybe you should put it on a pation drive and see what u think... l would like to hear from people that are using the op system and maybe give out some tweaks and hints.. Regards Paul
March 25, 200719 yr worked out my problem it was in the options for the graphics card...other than that its a great program.
March 25, 200719 yr I bought Vista Ultimate on the day it was released after beta testing and find that it works quite well. As we have the same processor and GPU, I'm sure you'd be very pleased with the performance and look of the new O/S.FS9 and FSX run well. I haven't experienced any major issues that the idiot between the monitor and the keyboard didn't cause :-lolAs far as offering additional features, I'm not sure that isn't somewhat subjective. I particularly enjoy the new interface and would never go back to XP. In Win XP, many of the background services had to be shutdown in order to obtain acceptable performance in the sim. I don't find that to be the case with Vista and its newer memory management. Much of the performance increase might have to do with having a high-end processor and 2GB of memory, but that said, the whole experience is very pleasing. As nVidia tweaks the drivers and releases newer versions, the graphics issues some are having should be reduced. They've stated that they want to go to a 30 day cycle of driver releases, a la AMD/ATI. I've installed the latest beta video drivers and find them to be a good deal more stable and trouble-free than the original release. Regards,Jim Karn
March 25, 200719 yr Jim l agree with you... l dont wont to go back to xp after trying vista. l bought home premium the bloke said dont worry about ultimate.. but l do love it alot. one thing l do want to buy soon is a 10,000 or 15000 rpm Hard drive. does improve flightsim.
