August 13, 200223 yr It is a shame that more of us can't fly Antii Pankkonin's new Auto Pilot. Perhaps if we all share what little we know we can figure it out. Would others please post what they have found to work, and if you think it helpfull, what doesn't seem to work. Here is what works for me:1. CH Pro Pedals - USB2. Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold Joystick - USBDauphin.cfgnumber_of_devices=2;cyclic_pitch=2,Y;cyclic_roll=2,X;yaw=1,Z;collective=2,SLIDER0;David Smith
August 13, 200223 yr Sorry, forgot to let you know I am using MS FS2002 and MS Windows XP Pro.David Smith
August 13, 200223 yr Ok, here is what I've got;MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback 2 (pro or whatever) :-bla I could'nt get the collective to work, so I've downloaded the new gauge that I downloaded at Annti's help page!Then I changed the collective part in the dauphin.cfg to:collective=1, SLIDER0 (or someting like that) (I'm at work, don't have the cfg in front of me)And that did it!!It actually worked, and I enjoy that helicopter every day :)Have a nice day!---------Fredrik Wold
August 13, 200223 yr Well, I have some of the buttons set up, like for the gear up/down. But after setting things up, I got busy with work and haven't had a chance to test it out! Also I had to get the gps_export.dll file from the Panel/Gauge SDK and put that in my FS2002 Modules folder. Haven't had a chance to check if THAT does anything either (although the docs say the GPS won't work without it).If your Auto Pilot isn't working, don't forget to disable the joystick in FS and then load up the Dauphin. I did find out that the helo will fly with your joystick enabled, but the good stuff won't work. You need to disable the stick so the config will control. I hope to get a chance to play with it some more today...... sometime. -Lindy :-wave Also using Saitek 3D Gold USB stickCH pedals (not Pro) connected to gameportWindows 98SE, full install
August 13, 200223 yr So far all systems on the Dauphin work flawlessly here. Yeah it takes a great deal of time to work them all out and get them working the way they are designed. From the outset, having its own .cfg in the root of Fs2002 is something that i have never seen before. It takes a bit of trial and error to get the .cfg working, but as those of you who have got the autopilot working will agree, this heli is like nothing you have ever seen before in Fs2002.Ok, so with that said and the .cfg all working, Starting the heli is no simple procedure. Lots of buttons and switches to press/pull/push to get the beast fired up. I have flown in a very similar heli to the dauphin and believe me, the start sequence is not too far from what Antti has created here.Now what (imo) its all about. The Auto pilot is amazing. No other words can discribe it. You MUST read the manual to become aquainted with it. I say aquainted, as once you have the basics, the more advanced features (auto take-off and fwd transition/Autoland) take a bit of figuring out. Although i have been flying this heli since the day it was released, it was sheer perseverance and help from a few others (not to mention this forum) that made me stick with it. I am convinced many many people dumped it becuase it was too hard to configure, whereas if they could have made it work sooner, they would have flown it death as i have :-) I did a couple of complete numbered sequence lists once i had mastered them and posted them in this forum. I plan to do some for the autopilot as well in the next few days... Look back through the threads and you'll find "How to's" on: 1.Starting the engines and getting it off the ground 2.Making the autopilot fly and hold to the assigned altitudesThe next one will be on enabling and basic use of the autopilot.Hope a few of these things help.http://www.avsim.com/vfr_center/avsim_sig.jpg
August 13, 200223 yr After days and days of tweaking and hacking, I could not for the life of me get my controls to work with the autopilot. My config is as follows: Microsoft FF2, USB Suncom SFS Joystick and throttle, SERIAL (I dont use the joystick just the throttle). Here is my config file, pretty straight forward: number_of_devices=2; cyclic_pitch=1,Y; cyclic_roll=1,X; collective=2,Z; Where 1 is my FF2 and 2 is my SFS. What I tried to do was map the SFS to the torque pedals and the FF2 to the cyclic. I also tried to map the SFS to the collective too. I could get the FF2 to work fine but had no luck with the SFS. It seems to me the Dauphin either isn't recognizing a serial connection or isn't recognizing a serial connection in conjunction with a USB connection. Has anyone else out there had any luck with both a serial and USB connection? Robert
August 13, 200223 yr If by "serial" you mean a gameport connection, yes, my setup works. My Saitek 3D Digital Gold USB stick is connected via USB. My CH pedals are connected via a Y-cable to an old CH flightstick, which is then plugged into my gameport. I have my stick controlling everything except the rudders, which are of course my pedals. (I don't use the CH flightstick for anything, so it's just sitting out of the way..... I only needed it so Windows would see my pedals in Control Panel/Game Controllers). -Lindy :-rotor in training
August 13, 200223 yr Hi all!Yep, I've got USB and Gameport (I presume thats the same as serial) working together. I'm at work, so I can't comment as to what my .cfg looks like, needless to say that it does take a bit of effort to set things up, and I think this thread is a great idea.Aidi... Keep up the good work, it's nice to see that someone realises that you can't expect to jump into a complex machine such as this, press one button and fly perfectly. I hope that all those people who critisised Antti for making it too complex come here and read your "tutorials" on how to set-up/fly the Dauphin, and maybe they will realise just how amazing it really is!!!BTW... I take it you've all seen the other thread showing screenshots of Antti's new projects...WOW!CheersAlun
August 14, 200223 yr I added the "gps_export.dll" into the modules folder as stated from the manual and I can't use the gps gauge. Can anyone advise?
August 14, 200223 yr Try acquiring the Logic 3 Phantom 2 joystick. It has trigger, two top buttons for the thum, a side thumb button and a directional hat. But what makes it great is that in well over a year I've had zero problems with it, hardly ever adjusted its calibration and it has a fantastic handle-style throttle that is just like a Bell 222's collective and makes general helicopter flying in FS so much better. It is not force feedback however. It's USB and I highly recommend it.Regards,Rotorhead.
August 14, 200223 yr Goincoastal,Installing the "gps_export.dll" is the first step. Now you need to find the "waypoint.txt", I can't remember where it was originally, but it should reside in your main FS2002 folder. In this .txt file you will find a few examples of recognised GPS co-ordinates, you'll need to manualy type in the places that you want to show up. I know this sounds like quite a task, but you only really need the places that your going to fly to, and you can do it as part of your flight planning, the other advantage over the default gps, is that you can program in any point you want E.G. location of your house, Final Approach Fix, anything really, just remember to use Decimal Degrees, and for South, and West, the figure should be Minus. Also notice, that for some reason the program doesn't like Idents longer than 7 characters, dispite what the manual says. Once youve done all that, don't forget to turn it on! Go to the Overhead panel (Shift+4) and turn R-NAV on.Hope this helpsAlun
August 17, 200223 yr I couldnt agree more with you sir.From now on we shall say helis before Antti's Dauphin and after Antti's Dauphin.It is very very hard to master and needs a lot of reading and understanding of the weird helicopter automatic flight but after that you are in H-E-A-V-E-N.It is pitty that people quit so fast on it.Panos IliopoulosAthens, [email protected]
August 21, 200223 yr I need some help with this helo... It's driving me nuts.Does anyone have a .cfg sorted out that works with the MS Sidewinder 2 (same as Precision Pro - I think), without any pedels (stick only).The help would be greatly appreciated and might, just might, keep the wife off of my back for spending hours at this an accomplishing nothing! :)
August 23, 200223 yr got my Precision Pro to work very well using the config below.However, I still have not gotten the throttle to work yet, but this is only day 2. Hope this helps!----------------------------Dauphine.cfg number_of_devices=1;cyclic_pitch=1,Y;cyclic_roll=1,X;yaw=1,rZ;collective=1,Z;force_trim_release=1,BUT1;beep_trim=1,POVO;snap_view=2,POVO;pan_view=1,POV0;toggle_landing_gear=1,BUT7;toggle_cycl_fd=1,BUT5;toggle_coll_fd=1,BUT3;toggle_coupler=1,BUT4;go_around=1,BUT2;brakes=1,BUT6;low_realism_setting;
