Is it possible with either the default helicopters (or any other) to use autopilot?Or at least set the a/c to maintain level and heading by some means ?(For long distances -it would make life easier). This is for FS2002 and FS2004Dave

Hi Dave,Not possible with the defaults, however,FS2002> Antti Pankonen's AS365 had a very detailed AP. A bit tricky to set up at times, but it works a treat. Limited AP was added to Dirk Fassenbender's Super Puma, it uses a stripped down version of Antti's AP. Some other heli's have auto hover, such as Jordan's Aircrane.FS2004> I think Manuel Gonzalez's Bell407 has a working AP, but don't quote me on that as it's about 40 Mb to download, and I have Dial up!!!Hope that helps some...Alun

You can actually add an autopilot to the FS2002 helicopters... but, you'll need to have Antti's Dauphin installed and working correctly.First, copy the "autopilot" section of your 737 aircraft.cfg file, and paste it into the aircraft.cfg file of the helicopter in question. Then, copy the Dauphin's panel to the helicopter in question. It'll work, but it's not always the greatest thing...

Are there any real world helos that actually have an AP? I downloaded the 407, but it doesn't seem to have any sound. Or maybe I'm just having another FS9 'issue.' :)

The 407 does have a sound package that is seperate from the main download. since the sounds alone amounted to around 40megs it was done that way to make downloading a bit easier. At Hovercontrol check the sounds section on the downloads page to find the exelent 407 sounds.

Just downloaded from the library Easy Helicopter Autopilot by Martin Benson(New today). It is easy to install .I put it in the Blackhawk, and once you get used to the way it operates ,it works beautifully.Note - it requires editing of your aircraft and panel .cfg files- back them up first.Dave

Yes, most of the "high end" (read-expensive) corporate helicopters have autopilots. Some that you'll normally find it on:S-76S-92S-61AS-365Some of the AS-332's (especially the North Sea and off the Atlantic Canadian Coast)EC-225 (Super Cougar)EC-155EC-135BK-117Bell 412

There's an AP for helos right here at AVSIM. Look for the file: easy_hp.zipI've got it to work on the Gazelle so far in FS 2004. I haven't tried it with the defaults yet but I assume it will work with them also.
