OUTSTANDING new freeware helo for FS9 - EC120B

Featured Replies

In the Avsim library:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=68395I have been playing with this helo tonight, and I am mightily impressed. This is after downloading many FS9 freeware helos (and buying couple payware ones too), which has mostly been an exercise in frustration as many of them are not all that good in one or more aspects. It does not have a 2D cockpit but the 3D detail of the entire aircraft, inside and out, is very good and although I have not flown a real one (yet - I'm working on that), the flight instruments attempt to emulate the advanced toys that are in the real EC120's panel, complete with multiple pages on both the PFD and secondary displays. The PFD's "FLI" (First Limit Indicator) is Eurocopter's answer to the pilot's problem of trying not to exceed either maximum torque or maximum temperature. Depending on ambient temperature, altitude, etc. either one of these parameters can be exceeded by pulling too much collective, and the FLI helps the pilot by requiring him to look at only this single indicator rather than having to monitor two or more gauges as is the case in most other helicopters (not made by EC). This model's PFD emulates the FLI although I have not verified that it does what the real one does. At any rate, it looks great! The panel also has an interesting rotor/engine RPM gauge, that appears to be using circular segmented LCD displays. (I don't think it's operating correctly, as I never get the expected "needle split" during an autorotation as I would expect, that is if I'm understanding this instrument.)The flight characteristics are nice too. I did a few autorotations and it definitely does not exhibit the excessive amount of rotor inertia that the stock FS9 Bell does, and it's quite pleasant to auto to the ground.Using Active Camera I moved around the cockpit, and the texture detail is very very good - even the seats' fabric looks realistic. All in all, a fine freeware offering, from a company that (although I couldn't find much on the web about them) apparently also does payware helicopters. Enjoy,Dave Blevins
