Flight plan deviation for weather?

Recommended Posts

GuysCan someone tell me how much a real-world plan would take into account severe weather? For instance, I have FlightManager, which is very nice apart from a few interface things which could be improved, and I love the factility to inject the MS/Jeppesen weather. So I'm flying from Frankfurt to Hong Kong and the autorouting has me flying through thunderstorms for much of my route. So, if there is a thunderstorm-free route that is maybe 200 miles longer, would this be chosen in real life or would the crew just deviate on route? Thanks and best regards//Neil

The flight was planned near 18h00 UTC.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d55a15f7f98bf2c.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d55a1d70207a72c.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d55a1ee02549e1a.jpgBut when the plane came above Ouagadougou (DFFD) near 00h20 UTC it encountered extreme turbulences that injured 29 people and killed one.The plane diverted to Marseille (LFML). The bad weather had moved westbound and the crew didn't see anything come (no radar/ night conditions). Here's the METAR at DFFD during the incident:DFFD 2351Z 07038G51KT 3000 TSRA FEW020 FEW040CB SCT130 24/19 Q1014The complete incident report is online, unfortunatly it's in french:http://www.bea-fr.org/docspa/1996/f-tf9609.../f-tf960905.pdfYohann, LFLL.

Thanks for the in-depth answer, Yohann. I'll get my Dad to translate the report for me tomorrow - he's a retired language professor and he can't get out much now because he has heart failure :( I'm sure he'll like the challenge.I wish I had broadband now, so I could use SimWX online weather with PS1 so I didn't just have static, 5-area weather to deal with along with the ELEC AC BUS 3 and 4 failures I've just got!Best regards//Neil
