January 2, 200323 yr Gentlemen,Now that we have left a bit of time go by, I believe it's time to give an explanation on my sudden vanishing act. First I would like to say I am sorry to the people who have sent me e-mails and to whom I have not replied. For the reason keep on reading. As most of you figured out, I do flight planning for a living.Well, not really, what I acctually do is to verify and Correct the airlines flight planners work. Cheeky? You bet! After all theres only 100 of us in Europe. The amount of requests I was getting was the reason I decided to give it a break.Lads, this forum was becoming a full time job. I would get to work and in the first hour, I would be either reserching routes or building them for you guys. In the mean time I was not doing it for the people who fly real airplanes, and who, in the end, pay my salary. As anyone can see, not very logical.Another reason I stopped, was the old complaint in flight simming.A lot of people take it for granted that they will get a reply, and on top of it, they are "entitled" to have one, just because they "participated" by asking. You don't. Not pointing fingers (honestly), when you get 10 odd requests in one message, what am I to think? This guy is going to fly all this routes tonight, or is he just trying to beat the all time record of routes sitting on a hard drive?Again I do apolagise for the break. I still look at the forum on a regular basis, and I am glad that a number of people have came out to provide data. Koen turned out the be a Excellent planner (ever thought of a job doing the real stuff?) and Adrej's enthousiasm compensates the delirious routes is PMI thingy comes up with.Gentlemen....I stay your's......... Cheers
January 3, 200323 yr Tocart! It's great to have you back! There was a great deal of sadness when you dissapeared, my friend and I thought you might have got sacked or something for giving out real world routings from your employer. Are you still doing requests? Would be great if you were, although I can very much sympathise with your plight of getting all these requests from quite a few people.Since you 'dissapeared' (for want of a better word), you probably noticed the forum suddenly became very quiet, and has not picked up a great deal ever since. It would be great if you could do requests for people, say limiting any person to one per fortnight maybe? It's great to have real world FP's because as you point out programs like PMFP, although being very good in general do occasionally spew out some ridiculous routings.May I start with a req. for todays (030103) EGLL - KDTW flight (BA203), of course though I will understand if you don't want to take requests anymore. :-)Looking forward to your reply!;-)Tom
January 3, 200323 yr Tocart! I'm just so happy that you are alive and well :-wave . Thanks so much for writing, very good to "hear your voice" again :-)DalatKEUG
January 3, 200323 yr Hi Tocart!I'm very glad to hear from you again. I just want to say thanks again for all the flightplans you've posted. I really have learned a lot from you :)Best wishes for 2003,Koen
January 3, 200323 yr hello tocart, sorry for you and you seems to meet some bad side of the world as i and many others in free infos...!!!and of course all the best to the new yearphil
January 3, 200323 yr Good you're back! I understand the pressure you had. I have one solution to this problem that people post 10 odd requests in one message, and that is, as muppet22 said, to limit any person to one per fortnight + that people should check the flight is valid, e.g. flightnumber, departurd and arrival airport are correct. I also hope that you could do requests for people. Best regards
January 3, 200323 yr Hi Tocart,Only had one or two plans off you which I appreciate fully.Unfortunately there will always be some freeloaders who expect your undivided attention. One solution may be that people post any requests they have and anybody in such employment that enables them to get access to the necessary routes can read each users request for a particular twenty four hour period. One route and return per user per 24 hours??Tocart or whoever then selects one request or two requests as they see fit, post the routing for them, and that is that for that time period. Then in the next 24 hours the process re-occurs. As long as there is a fair pick of different routes, say one long haul, one short haul and departure/destination variation then it will give all of us a chance to get some great routes in no time at all.OK OK I know that it won't allow the "can I have todays BAWXXX to KJFK so I can fly it tonight on vatsim" etc etc, but I think most people would just be glad to have logical approved routes, that would work on most days. Obviously NAT track variations will occur, but most of this is for simulation use and is it really that desperately important....??Anyone agree with me...or shall I just hide in the corner??Andrew
January 5, 200323 yr Hello Tocart, it is nice to hear from you again! This forum have been slow for some period of time, and thanks to OBK, Koen and others it started to get moving again. I thought that I will give in my two cents as well. :-)I am sure that many, including myself, really to appreciate everything you and others, Phil etc., did for this forum. And it is sad, that some of these people never said Thanks. :-mad Well, I guess some people need to learn!Well, good luck with your job, and hopefully you will take into concideration Muppet's idea. Cheers,Andrej L.
